Senior Systems Architect, Advanced Displays

Job Description:
Seeking a Senior Systems Architect with expertise in optical and display technologies. The main focus of this role will be to define system architecture and requirements for Magic Leap’s product, and to help ensure successful system integration, verification and validation. This person should be a self-starter with a knack for delivering efficient solutions that quickly solve the problem at hand with an eye on scalability. The Systems Engineering Team and this role touch every aspect of Magic Leap’s product. This role reports to the Lead Systems Architect - Lightfield.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for defining the lightfield/display architecture and system requirements for Magic Leap’s products, in close collaboration with teams across the Hardware and Software organization.
- Responsible for defining modules, functions and interfaces, and performing requirements analysis, functional allocation, tradeoff analyses, modeling and simulations to support architecture and requirement decisions.
- Responsible for defining verification and validation plans for system requirements in collaboration with Test and Quality teams.
- Responsible for coordinating system integration of the lightfield/display architecture to meet target requirements, at each stage of development from feasibility to production transfer.
- Involved in requirements and change management in collaboration with Program Management, to ensure that the organization is aligned on the requirements for Magic Leap’s products.
- Involved in research and development of lightfield/display systems, including investigation of broad technology spaces to meet design objectives.
- Involved in prototyping hardware and software components for technology exploration, demonstrations, and simulations.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of industry or research experience with optical or display systems preferably in AR/VR/MR applications, and familiar with the design and development of combined hardware and software systems.
- Familiar with display technologies, graphics engines, optics principles, image quality measures and virtual/augmented reality architectures.
- Experience in applying Systems Engineering principles and functional areas including requirements engineering, architecture definition, integration and testing.
- Experience in data analysis, statistics and visualization, and effectively summarizing and communicating results.
- Experience with one or more programming languages, including Python, C++, Matlab, R.
- Experience in geometric/diffractive optical system design, simulation or calibration is a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and track record of collaborating across diverse teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-directed, self-organized, proactive and comfortable working in a very dynamic work environment.
Education:
- B.S in Optical, Electrical, Computer Engineering or similar plus 3 or more years of progressive working experience or equivalent industry experience. M.S or Ph.D preferred.
