Senior Surfacing Artist

The opportunity
Are you interested in creating world class, groundbreaking, interactive experiences on a large scale? We're looking for an experienced Senior Surfacing Artist with exceptional communication skills to work on a brand-new application Unity is developing. We're seeking a leader in their field who is passionate about live-events, gaming, and community building.
More specifically, in the next 4-12 months, you will be defining, shaping, and supporting the delivery of a creative direction and working first version alongside hardworking colleagues at the top of their game!
Long term, we will work to develop and employ efficient working practices ensuring that all externally authored art content meets the high visual quality bar established by project art direction. Additionally, you will continually look for the most efficient ways to empower the artists on your team, as well as our external partners, to deliver large volumes of content within our tight production schedule constraints, while also maintaining the artistic style and vision our projects are known for.
What you’ll be doing
- Create photo-realistic and stylized textures, either hand painted or procedural, at the level of detail necessary for production assets.
- Participate in reviews as required; be willing to show and discuss work in progress
- Lead, guide, and educate external art teams on visual quality, technical specifications, process and workflows.
- Coordinate with Management on addressing gaps, quality issues, scheduling or changes in scope.
- Actively seek opportunities to improve processes and facilitate solutions at all levels in the organization.
What we’re looking for
- An experienced eye for artistic quality and detail with the ability to breakdown and communicate complex feedback and art direction clearly using visual, verbal, and written medium.
- 3D Generalist sensibilities with the ability to constructively evaluate and critique characters, vehicles, props, and environment assets and expert knowledge of foundational art principles.
- Solid experience with UV unwrapping tools and shader creation experience.
- Proficiency in some or all of Maya or Blender, ZBrush, Mari, Substance Designer, Substance Painter and Photoshop.
- Portfolio showcasing realistic, high quality textures which you have built. Examples of procedural textures used on props and environments.
You might also have
- Exhibit a high degree of technical knowledge about current state-of-the-industry environment surfacing techniques.
- Experience working with a game engine and implementing 3D work into engine.
- Good understanding of strict environment art texel allocation and UV mapping.
