Senior Software Engineer, Production and Reliability Engineering

The opportunity
We in Production and Reliability Engineering team are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join us in our Helsinki office. Our main charter is to enable the success of Unity developers and provide value for our customers, all the while advocating for a broader culture of learning and reliability within Unity. Our organization is made up of Site Reliability Engineers, DevOps Engineers, and also Service and Product teams, so you’ll join a group working with a varied skill set toward a common goal.
In this role, you will take on a software engineering role in a team of Infrastructure specialists, combining a site reliability approach with a passion for mentoring and educating others on the value and impact of site reliability. You’ll work as part of a diverse team distributed between Helsinki, Vilnius and Edinburgh, taking ownership of the short and long term vision for our internal tools based on partnerships with a selection of different teams and partners here at Unity. You’ll serve as the team’s domain specialist in engineering, leading planning and feature development.
What you’ll be doing
- Design & develop new services and improve our existing services
- Navigate between ground-level and big-picture views about software architecture
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other teams by clearly communicating ideas and solutions, translating these ideas and solutions into features and new tools
- Mentor and coach existing team members, increasing the team’s engineering knowledge and understanding
- Translate technical needs into practical solutions for both technical and non-technical partners across the business
What we’re looking for
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a variety of both technical and non-technical peers
- Strong programming skills in golang or similar backend technologies
- Strong understanding on building scalable and reliable services
- Practical understanding of Site Reliability Engineering and DevOps
- Experience with cloud environments, ideally GCP or similar
You might also have
- Understanding of continuous integration / continuous deployment
- Contribution to open source projects and/or an interesting Github page
- Healthy obsession with metrics, measurement and reliability in general
- Experience with container technology, specifically Docker and Kubernetes
