Senior Software Engineer (Network R&D)

Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Future Technology Group (FTG) division is leading the Cloud Gaming revolution by putting console-quality video games on any device from TVs to consoles to mobile devices and beyond.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who will be responsible for developing new features for clients and servers. This person must be capable of handling all aspects of the technology from the implementation of streaming clients on new platforms to optimizing the streaming protocol over various types of networks. This opportunity offers new challenges and the sense of accomplishment from tackling them while providing a balanced mix of production and R&D projects that ensures the work is both fast-paced and rewarding.
Responsibilities:
- Investigate and profile characteristics of different types of networks, e.g. WiFi, 5G, DSL, fibre, satellite, cable, etc.
- Push technological boundaries of streaming protocols for highest efficiency and lowest latency.
- Develop and maintain client/server components and features.
- Troubleshooting performance and reliability issues at a global scale.
- Document key technical areas for knowledge sharing.
- Give technical presentations to internal teams.
- Mentor engineers in key technical areas.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering plus 5 years of relevant work experience.
- Minimum 5+ years of relevant programming experience in C/C++.
- 5+ years of networking experience.
- Possess a strong understanding of the network stack, especially the transport layer (TCP/UDP), network layer and physical layer.
Desired Skills and Knowledge:
- Wireless networking technologies experience, e.g. WiFi, 5G, etc.
- Understanding of QoS, WebTransport, and WebCodec.
- Ability to follow the state of development of various networking technologies.
- Demonstrative Linux experience.
- Git version control.
- Bilingual in Japanese is a plus.
