Senior Software Engineer (Java)

The opportunity

We are currently seeking a highly proficient Senior Software Engineer (Java developer) to solve technical issues from Wētā Digital and Wētā FX users and work with the pipeline team.

The Pipeline department build the software which help our crew make movies. We specialise in crafting and developing enterprise grade distributed systems that run on our large cluster compute setup with minimal downtime.

Our ideal candidate is an expert Java developer who’ll join our cross-functional team here in Wellington. Your key responsibilities will be supporting and improving the functions and efficiency of existing applications, as well as proficient at crafting and developing high-volume, low-latency applications which deliver high-availability and performance.

What you’ll be doing

• Provide in-depth consultation and support to developers
• Work closely with various global teams to ensure the highly successful pipeline
• Become a technical professional in the use of our backend product portfolio
• Build up strong and long term bonds with developers

What we’re looking for

• Experience being a Java developer
• Experience with maintaining and developing open source technologies
• Experience in test driven development
• High level of understanding of database structures
• Strong oral and written communication skills with various groups

You might also have

• Knowledgeable in Go language
• Knowledgeable in lean development
• Knowledgeable with Elasticsearch, AWS and multiple deployment
