Senior, Software Engineer, Embedded (Computer Vision Framework)

Job Description
Magic Leap is seeking an embedded software engineer with significant experience working with heterogeneous multicore embedded systems. Expertise is needed to help us design, optimize, and develop the most performant perception platform in the industry. The position is in the Computer Vision framework and OS team, which is responsible for providing the operating environment that supports our computer vision and perception software.
If you are the successful candidate, you will get to work on a system that requires strict timing tolerances under heavy loads, novel approaches to displaying content, and much more. APIs will be designed and agreed upon with other teams, documented, implemented, modified, and supported. Bugs related to those APIs will need to be triaged and fixed. Frameworks that allow custom DSP code to be scheduled and run will be created and maintained. Memory architectures, core timing, and load balancing will all be needed for this position.
Qualifications
- 8+ years experience in embedded software development
- Fluent in the C language
- Experience with embedded development practices
- Experience with real-time and time-critical systems, avoiding race conditions, meeting deadlines
- Experience in diagnosing difficult to find, intermittent bugs
- Experience in device drivers
- Development with sensitivity to performance, memory utilization, and power consumption
- Experience with development on an RTOS and/or embedded Linux
- Experience in performance measurement and optimization
- Ability to use test-driven development or other test and assurance methodologies
- Experience with complex memory systems (caching, shared memory, memory barriers, etc.)
- Experience in designing and implementing asynchronous or concurrent multithreaded systems
- Able to develop in a Linux environment
- Must be a good communicator and self-motivated to complete projects, and enjoy hw-sw debugging
Bonus Points
- Ability to debug with hardware support, such as JTAG
- Familiarity with git, Gerrit, doxygen, and Jira
- Factory testing process experience is a plus
- Experience bringing up custom hardware
- Knowledge of C++ and assembly language
- Discipline to keep wiki, documentation, or API contract up to date
- Experience with Buildroot or Yocto to configure and deploy custom Linux distributions on embedded platforms.
- Experience delivering a high-reliability product
- Ability to develop in accordance with security requirements
- Ability to work through a code review process, both as author and reviewer
Education
- BA/BS is required
- MS or higher is preferred
