Keywords' client, a studio developing titles in their AAA FPS Franchise, is looking for a mid-level to senior engineer to join the Core Game Systems team working on the next big shooter experience. As a member of this team you will work alongside a group of talented individuals to debug and optimize foundational engine systems.
Core Game Systems is a team of specialists focused on scaling the their Engine to match the ever increasing amounts of content created by our gameplay designers and artists. The focus of this role will be on debugging and optimizing complex systems underlying the core gameplay of their game, and candidates should expect to work across a range of technologies. These technologies include but are not limited to: Navigation, Content Streaming, Scripting Systems, and Performance. The ideal candidate will enjoy tackling challenging and complex problems, with an eye for both runtime and memory performance, scalable design, and architectural elegance.
Responsibilities:
- Investigate complex issues arising in low-level gameplay systems
- Dig into large and complex systems for debugging purposes with minimal assistance
- Track down, analyze, and solve loosely defined performance problems
- Improve existing (and sometimes old) systems that aren't performing to required standards
- Consider user impact for designers and artists when designing low-level systems and features

Requirements
- 4+ years of professional programming experience
- 3+ years of experience in C++
- Comfort working with large complex codebases
- History of successful feature execution in a legacy environment
- Proven ability to gather deep knowledge of specific features
- Willingness to dig into the details of complex problems
Bonus:
- Experience with modern game engines and technologies
- Experience with Lua or similar scripting systems
Network Requirements:
During WFH or if remote, the following is required for this type of position:
- Internet speed of at least 500 Mbps or 1 Gbps, wired connection preferred, to ensure work is not impacted by connectivity/latency issues
- Make sure to run and repeat speed tests throughout the day, as it can fluctuate during peak hours
- Candidates must provide a screenshot of their speed test result
- If candidate does not currently meet the network requirement:
- Candidate is committing to meeting the network requirement by their start date if an offer is received and mutually accepted
- Internet upgrade reimbursement eligibility criteria and guidelines are available for reference
