Job Overview:
The Senior Quality Assurance Tester is a major part of our developer support team, overseeing the daily QA operations on a single project or feature. You will be responsible for reporting bugs in our bug tracking database, overseeing the daily smoke testing on game builds, and interfacing with external development partners and their own QA teams. As a Lead / Senior, you may also be called upon to manage QA testing, authoring and executing test plans, and coordinating build deployment on test hardware. To accomplish this, you will need to work with the appropriate personnel to organize the testing efforts on assigned pre-release video games as well as serve as the main point of contact between QA Leadership, Production Staff, Development Teams, and external QA groups.
Job Responsibilities:
- Pull and deploy new build revisions to PC and gaming consoles as well as guide others.
- Ability to perform all relevant tasks and guide other team members.
- Develop and maintain a symbiotic relationship with production and development to ensure all parties are on the same page and in alignment
- Oversee, supervise, and provide mentorship for all QA tasking, from daily reports, smoke tests, regressions, documentation, feature testing, test plan execution and can clearly and concisely communicate / escalate any associated risks.
- Work with the Project Leads to ensure project test plans are covering all relevant areas of the project as well as providing clear and concise digestible results.
- Review, monitor, and evaluate all issues entered by the test teams to ensure bug reports include required information and conform to QA standards
- Works with Internal and External Production teams to properly evaluate issue priority and severity through the product life cycle. Additionally, when appropriate, will manage Bug Triage meetings.
- Identify and document defects in a clear and concise manner using the assigned bug tracking databases (JIRA) as well as provide guidance and insight to other team members
- Lead efforts in analyzing and improving various QA systems, processes, reports and/or guidelines (bug reporting and test procedures).
- Oversee the regular regressions for existing bugs by the team in our bug database to ensure that old issues don’t re-emerge and to verify that new issues have been resolved
- Provide feedback on gameplay, both positive and negative
- May be asked to contribute to tester performance evaluations. Work closely with them to alleviate any issues that arise
- Basic ability and understanding to properly utilize emotional leadership to guide those around you.
- Ability to identify future risks that could impact the project quality and clearly communicate those concerns and potential solutions to the appropriate stakeholders.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- 4 + years of testing experience on AAA titles – Must Have
- 1 – 2 years of lead level experience shipping a AAA title – Nice to Have
- Gaming experience, as well as a broad understanding of popular gaming genres and strong gaming terminology
- Strong working knowledge of most popular console platforms and related peripherals and PC hardware
- Demonstrable skills in and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of test methodologies and QA best practice and procedures
- Have led or mentored others in the past
- Must be punctual, proactive, and have a strong work ethic
- Actively communicates a positive, outgoing approach to Quality Assurance - able to give and accept positive feedback as well as constructive criticism
- A strong desire to learn and understand the technologies involved in game creation
- Strong critical and analytical skills, as well as the ability to troubleshoot
- Capacity to create, develop and implement innovative testing procedures and materials
