We are currently working on an unannounced, original multiplayer game that is being published by our partners at Sony Interactive Entertainment. We’re actively looking to add visionary creators who thrive in an environment where the “status quo” just won’t do and who genuinely want to be part of a collaborative, inclusive, and respectful team.
Firewalk is proud to be part of the ProbablyMonsters family of studios who recently raised $250 million to secure our future and our team with the benefits of a long-lasting career. THE ROLE
Our team is looking for a Senior Modes Technical Designer to help us create high quality, PVP-focused game modes, systems, and content. Our Senior Modes Technical Designer is responsible for creating the technical foundation for our game modes as well as working with the design team to develop new PVP game types.
WHO YOU ARE
- You love action games and have a solid understanding of foundational FPS mechanics.
- You have a genuine interest in and enthusiasm for building, expanding, and improving upon the components and systems that create great PVP experiences.
- You enjoy solving technical problems, building new development tools, and are unafraid of diving into complex aspects of game development.
- You are a "force multiplier" for other developers on the team, and thrive when learning, building, and teaching. Helping to solve a difficult problem and then using that knowledge to help your team or build a new tool or pipeline, is highly rewarding to you.
- You are an excellent communicator. You love to give feedback on work in progress, and you love to teach your coworkers new work methods and efficiencies.
- You are literate in game design fundamentals. You enjoy being a key part of design conversations about what makes a game fun and try to understand how each component contributes to the whole.
- You can successfully build and manage relationships with other developers, departments, and feature teams, to help them get the most out of working on PVP modes content.
WHAT YOUR DAY MIGHT LOOK LIKE
- Designing and prototyping new PVP game modes as well as iterating and polishing existing ones.
- Brainstorming mode mechanics with the team, anticipating problematic mode states, and finding creative and intuitive solutions to challenging edge cases.
- Creating new, intuitive placeholder elements to convey mode information for our players to help vet out early mode prototypes.
- Working closely with other designers as both a creative collaborator and a technical architect/ problem solver.
- Striving to achieve scripting best practices and evangelizing them to the team.
- Reviewing script architecture with PVP designers and engineers to ensure our technical underpinnings are fundamentally sound, scalable, and robust.
- Working closely with other tech designers and engineers to improve our game’s architecture, problem solve technical roadblocks, and build on the rest of the team's work.
- Playtesting the latest build. Offering constructive feedback, listening to team feedback, and incorporating suggestions and improvements into ongoing iterations of your modes and features.
- Prioritizing bugs and tasks on PVP modes, to continuously push forward what’s best for the game and the team.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience seeing a game through the entire development pipeline, from prototyping to polish and release. For example, having shipped at least one AAA title from start to finish, or equivalent game development experience.
- Significant, demonstrated expertise in creating shippable content using the Unreal 4 and/or Unreal 5 engine(s), particularly focused around Blueprint scripting/ C++ implementation.
- A history of creating under-the-hood systems and tools that also enable other developers to do great work.
Our Commitment To You
- A people-first culture founded on respect, trust, approachability, and accountability.
- A stable home that values your potential, deeply cares about your work-life balance, and is committed to investing in your craft and long-term career.
- Competitive benefits package including health and family benefits, employee assistance program, flexible and paid time off, financial benefits and professional and personal development.
