The Senior Product Designer oversees the R&D design effort for approximately 35% of Magic TCG’s worldwide revenues. In this role, you will be responsible for aligning strategy for multiple R&D design teams and quality control teams to deliver industry-leading products and experiences. You will work collaboratively to incorporate the needs of other departments into the R&D design process. When conflict or uncertainty arises, the Senior Product Designer will arbitrate a solution between the teams and lead execution of necessary changes.
What you'll do:
- Manage all aspects of execution of a Magic block or specialty product, including product and player experience, at the company level from inception planning and design, into release and retrospective.
- Use your experience in game design to craft innovative products and accessories for major releases of the world’s biggest Trading Card Game.
- Unify strategic direction with input from multiple executive sources. Arbitrate design and production conflicts between business units with sometimes competing priorities.
- Direct a team of product designers and foster positive internal and external team relationships.
- Lead discussions on product development in order to solicit feedback and gain approval from senior leadership. Communicate decisions, strategies, and options to all areas of the company.
- Collaborate in all aspects of product design to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery at highest quality.
- Support the Senior Director to develop strategic direction for block environments including game design, world-building, product development, and marketing connections for both face-to-face and digital gaming to deliver positive gaming experiences for players of all levels.
- Propose strategy for product development, incorporating the needs and wants of multiple executives. Plan and collaborate to allocate R&D design resources to all projects.
- Final decision maker in the Magic set design and development process between R&D design teams, between R&D design and quality control, and between R&D and other departments.
What you’ll bring:
- 4+ yrs experience designing products in a business environment with advancing responsibilities.
- Experience crafting strategic and tactical plans in a highly complex, constantly evolving environment. Ability to manage multiple large projects simultaneously.
- Deep knowledge of Magic rules, environments, characters, worlds, and customer segments.
- Creative, brand-centric, customer focused thinking coupled with reasoned judgment.
- Champion risk-taking and innovation while applying judgment.
- Understanding of P&L, sales strategies and deliverables.
- Ability to build positive relationships inside and outside of R&D. Ability to inspire trust through personal accountability, display passion and diplomacy.
- Strong communication skills.
