That’s No Moon is an independent AAA game development studio established in 2021 by veterans of some of the most recognizable and critically acclaimed creative teams in the world, including Naughty Dog, Infinity Ward, Santa Monica Studio, Bungie, PlayStation, and more. A remote-friendly studio with a central office and performance capture stage located in Los Angeles, That’s No Moon is creating the next generation of narrative-driven, genre-defining experiences built upon a culture of creativity, collaboration, responsible production practices, and individual empowerment. We are assembling a diverse team of passionate developers of a wide range of experience levels and backgrounds to help shape the future of our studio and projects.
We are seeking a Senior Procedural Technical Artist who will support the Environment Art team through procedural modeling, terrain generation, and tools development. Working closely with the Art Leads, your work will help shape and populate our world with photorealistic assets and landscapes, while helping our artists craft levels in a non-destructive way. Your work will meaningfully enrich our artist’s workflows and pipelines. With your help we will push the industry to new heights of realism, gameplay, and storytelling!
Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain the terrain pipeline between Unreal and Houdini, utilizing a mix of satellite data and Heightfield workflows.
- Build procedural tools for crafting roads, rivers, buildings, interior layouts, mountains and more to be used in Unreal by the Environment Art team.
- Populate the game world with vegetation, props, and decals using complex rule sets.
- Procedural modeling of organic objects such as cliffs and rocks driven by artistic inputs.
- Collaborate with all facets of art, tech art, and engineering to develop and improve the pipeline for building procedural content within Unreal, Houdini, and other software packages.
Requirements & Skills:
- Extremely proficient in Houdini with experience in terrain generation, procedural modeling, and destruction simulations.
- Strong understanding of VEX.
- Ability to work within the technical constraints of real-time game engines and optimize procedural content for the target hardware.
- Communicate closely with Art Leads and anticipate the needs of world builders to streamline content creation.
- (Bonus) Understanding of Python or equivalent language.
- (Bonus) Experience with Gaea, World Machine, or equivalent terrain software.
- (Bonus) Experience with Photogrammetry and Layered Material workflows.

TNM considers a number of factors when determining each role's base pay range, including industry benchmarks, location, experience, and other job specific skills. In addition to base pay, this role may be eligible for other incentive compensation including equity and profit share. The estimated base pay range for this role is U.S. only and not applicable for locations outside of the U.S.

The estimated base pay range for this role is: $115,000 - $160,000
