Senior Narrative Designer - Planet Franchise

Reporting directly to the Head of Design but working under the Design leads and GD, the Senior Narrative designer will build on enhance and own the vison for the franchise in respect of storytelling, world building, writing and dialogue. They will deliver this vison by working closely and collaborating with all other departments alongside this they will identify, develop and manage the appropriate, writing talent, resources and processes.

Key responsibilities
- Work with Game Directors and Leads of all departments to understand, consolidate, communicate and deliver, the narrative vision and requirements for all games in the franchise.
- Acting as a vision holder for the narrative you will take the requirements of all the stakeholder’s and elevate that into a cohesive and engaging narrative experience, tailored to the needs of the product. This includes World character and narrative building.
- Expected to own and have responsibility for all the text and writing across the franchise, its quality, its consistency and its delivery with support from external writers and our technical writing team. Working directly with and helping to identify recruit and manage external writers who fit the requirements quality and tone need for the project
- Expected to work directly with design UI and Audio to help scope out the systems and tools behind the delivery of the game narratives, monitoring and adjusting those systems to best effect and ensuring they are appropriately applied across the franchise.
- Working with others but able to deliver high quality first pass text for all situations, including adding text, assessing it in-game, and iterating on it accordingly. Working with the Technical writer/s to manage and maintain text files naming conventions and processes, ensuring consistency across the franchise and within the project, troubleshooting as needed.
- Supporting casting and recording sessions; working with Audio to provide all necessary materials and feedback to ensure they run smoothly and that the meaning, accuracy and tone fit the vision and needs of the project/franchise.
- Ensure good narrative practice across the franchise; monitoring and where applicable helping develop pipelines and tools and define how they interface with other departments such as localisation and audio with an eye to consistency, efficiency, suitability and sustainability but understanding where and when to make do.
About you
- History of working with AAA games as a Narrative designer
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills able to build bridges and inspire confidence with a deep understanding of the need of the other departments involved and knowing how to get the most out of these relationships
- Understands how to deliver storytelling and world building in a visual/interactive medium
- Strong communication, copy writing and editorial skills, experience with VO
- Can identify quality in writing (both exposition & dialogue), scripts, storyboards, direction and acting, for the medium of film or games
- Can provide feedback and critique to get the best out of the above and align them with the vision of the project
- Can work with storyboards, character profiles etc., translating them into their end product, whether this is for gameplay, trailers, or cinematics.
- Deep understanding of Narrative systems and how to implement them to best effect.
