Senior Manager, Software Engineering - World Wide Publishing, Esports Digital

Riot engineers bring deep knowledge of specific technical areas but also value the chance to work in many broader domains. As a Senior Manager, Software Engineering in Esports Digital , you will oversee the health and performance of the Engineering Discipline across the team. You will work with other discipline leads in leading various teams of developers in pursuit of our product goals. You will also be accountable for the organizational leadership of all engineers working in Esports Digital. You will hire to grow the team as we expand our leagues and tournaments across multiple Riot games and will coach managers on the team to create an effective and inclusive work environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage a group of over 15 software engineers ranging from associate to people managers
• Partner with your Tech Leads to provide technical direction to esports engineering teams
• Create a diverse and inclusive team where all members feel they have a voice and are welcome
• Be a supportive career coach for the engineers on your team
• You will help identify, negotiate, and integrate vendor product and technology solutions that allow the initiative to execute quickly and efficiently
• Partner with recruiting in hiring outstanding engineers
• Partner with product and delivery leads to help set initiative-wide priorities and product direction
• Represent your team’s point of view and priorities to other teams and products
• Hold your team accountable to Riot’s engineering and performance standards and Riot Values

Required Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
• Experience as a Senior Software Engineer or higher
• 10+ years of software industry experience
• 4+ years of people management experience
• Previous deep hands-on programming experiences in two or more of the following programming languages: C/C++, Java, JavaScript, Go, Python
• Working and present knowledge and experience in distributed computing, web-services, microservices architecture, API design, scalable system architecture and operating and supporting production services
• Experience with AWS (or comparable cloud environments)
• Understands the difficulties and trade-offs when building large scale systems. Has worked on a high volume system (tens of thousands per second

Desired Qualifications

• 3+ years of video game, esports, and/or traditional sports industry experience
• 2+ years experience managing managers
• 5+ years hands on experience with backend (Java, Go) and frontend technologies (React, Typescript)
• 5+ years distributed systems experience
• Demonstrated experience developing a team and holding them accountable to many of the responsibilities above
• Experience leading teams in live operations settings
• Experience leading remote teams
