Senior Manager, Software Engineering - Infrastructure Platform, RDX:Edge

As a part of the Riot Developer Experience (RDX) team, you'll collaborate to build the distributed platform that enables our games to operate globally at scale. You will work with all game teams, including R&D, to engineer the microservice foundation that enables us to bring projects from creation to production. As a Senior Engineering Manager on the RDX Edge team, your team will build products that enable Riot developers to securely publish their APIs for use at scale. You'll leverage your expertise in building large-scale, highly-available systems to build a managed API gateway service that brings value to millions of players across the world, by handling everything necessary to securely accept and process hundreds of thousands of concurrent API calls for the Riot Games API and critical game loop services used across products like League of Legends, VALORANT, Wild Rift, and more. You will report to the Senior Engineering Manager of the Riot Developer Experience (RDX) group.
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of software engineers, coaching them, overseeing performance management, growth opportunities, and accountability
- Manage the health and performance of the engineering team with empathy and authenticity, building trust, and inspiring them to overcome challenges
- Grow the team through hiring and constructing an efficient onboarding process for new team members
- Provide technical expertise throughout the product life cycle including design, implementation, test, and release while continuously improving the software engineering quality and efficiency
- Demonstrate a high bar of craft excellence for your team
- Build healthy relationships with other engineering teams at Riot to foster cross-team collaboration
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years experience of people management experience
- 10+ years of software industry experience
- Ability to scale yourself through other leaders and hold teams accountable for shipping high-quality software
- Expertise in project management, prioritization frameworks, and guiding investment strategies in people and systems
- Working experience in distributed systems at scale
- Experience collaborating across departments to create solutions
Desired Qualifications
- Experience operating and supporting production services, understanding of on-call processes
- Experience developing using cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP) using containers and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), managed using infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible)
- 6+ years of experience working with one or more programming languages such as Java, Go and their respective ecosystems
- Understand networking - HTTP down to the network layer (TCP/IP, routing, etc.)
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins)
