Senior Manager (Data Science & Scientific Modelling)

Our mission? To enable the most realistic and effective military simulations ever experienced, making defence users more effective on operations and decreasing the cost of military preparedness.
Your Mission
You will be responsible for initially managing two teams, with the intention that you will grow an engineering manager for one of the teams. Currently the applied science and modelling group comprises 5 applied scientists, and 4 SWE’s. This group is planned to grow from 9 to 22 within the year, anchored around your leadership of the group.
We envisage that you will leverage your experience leading data-scientists & researchers to develop the careers of our applied scientists and broader managerial skills to develop an engineering manager responsible for the engineers within the group.
The responsibility of these teams is to provide the scientific models & tools that sit at the heart of our core product offering. We are interested in understanding the consequences of aggressive action on a society, whether it is a power station being destroyed, a road network becoming blocked, or fake news propagating through a social network - we seek to understand these consequences so that more resilient societies can be engineered and our defence and national security is at the cutting edge of capability.
Areas for Impact
- You will be responsible for two teams that form the core of our product engineering effort. These teams are drawn from a broad range of backgrounds; scientific ( e.g. Mathematical Modelling), software (cloud & distributed systems), data science (machine learning).
- You will directly lead the scientific career path and will work to develop / hire an engineering manager to lead the engineers in the group
- You will also help guide scientific best practice, helping share knowledge and develop our process companywide
- You will act as a servant-leader, putting the team above the individual, promoting effectiveness through a happy work/life balance.
- You will help shape product vision & technical architecture, pulling together the views of your teams & representing them appropriately. Similarly you will unblock and mitigate any risks to ensure your team can deliver against product milestones.
- You will help your teams to always see the bigger picture, mentoring them to make informed, data-driven decisions
- You will advocate for the customer, ensuring we always have customer & partner values top of mind.

We'd like to hear from you if you identify with some of the following:
- 3+ years as a senior manager, building and leading data-orientated teams
- Passion for developing, mentoring and coaching managers and developing the careers of data scientists and researchers
- Relevant scientific, research, data-science or engineering background.
- Previous experience working with customers, both internal and external.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience developing hiring strategies & goals and aiding recruitment process.
