Senior Lighting Artist

As a Senior Lighting Artist at Certain Affinity, you will help work within our multi-discipline art team to light the game world as well as create mood and atmosphere in line with the art direction of the game. You will be using the latest techniques of baked and real-time lighting and post-processing. You will be expected to master the engine and tools to maintain a consistently high-quality level while ensuring artistic and technical constraints are respected.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Art Director, Environment Artists, and Level Designers to create lighting for all aspects of the game
- Create lighting systems, color grading and other post-process effect setups that will support the atmosphere and gameplay effects
- Verify the quality of the lighting once the elements are imported into the game and make any necessary improvements
- In addition to light sources set out the selected moods and atmospheres
- Make choices and communicates them accordingly to reach the expected quality for optimized lighting setups
- Anticipate and suggests improvements to solve technical issues
- Communicate with other teams (Level Artists, Level Designer) to ensure that their needs are adequately considered
- Optimize the lighting effects to produce the best possible lighting, in keeping with the technical limitations of the engine and project
- Create real-time and baked lighting using commercial and proprietary game engines
- Manage lighting performance and frame rate via optimization tool
- Lead and direct activities and implementation of lighting and pipeline creation
- Mentor other artists on technique and process
Requirements
- 4+ years’ experience in the game industry, specifically lighting environments
- Must clearly demonstrate the ability to apply a structured artistic approach to lighting form and space
- Expertise in the use of composition and color
- Solid artistic knowledge of lighting techniques, real-time and pre-rendering
- Working knowledge of PBR shaders and workflows
- Experience with HDR lighting
- Understanding of the construction and application of materials and shaders
- Excellent understanding of art pipelines and workflow
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with team members
- Extensive knowledge of photography, lighting, color and image composition
- In-depth knowledge of color grading and other post-process effects
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to understand technical constraints and to apply them to the assets/setups created
- Ability to manage their own time and work within deadlines
- Ability and desire to work in creative and collaborative teams
- Originality and proactivity when setting out solutions
- Ability to receive feedback, implement any requested changes and clearly communicate ideas
- Passion for games and strong game culture
- A desire to work in a diverse and inclusive environment
Extra Credit
- Experience managing, scheduling, critiquing work for multiple artists
- Shipped one or more AAA titles in the last 3 years
- Knowledge of photography principals and Post Processing techniques
- Experience mentoring other artists
