Senior Lighting Artist

Ascendant Studios is looking for a lighting artist capable of creating emotive and performant lighting scenarios for a realistic title. Our ideal candidate will have had experience working in AAA games for both environment and cinematic lighting.
This position can be remote or in-person. Our new office, set in an old bank (yes, we kept the vault, aka our game room), has just opened after a 2 year renovation, steps away from shops, restaurants, and San Rafael’s vibrant downtown.
Founded by industry veterans, Ascendant Studios is a fully independent AAA game studio committed to making richly detailed, visceral, narrative-driven action games of the highest quality that players will never forget. We are currently working on our first title, an imaginative and original new IP, which we have complete ownership and creative control of.
Key Responsibilities
- Light game environments for gameplay and cinematics
- Work alongside art director and tech artists to develop our lighting pipeline.
- Ensure that lighting throughout the game is performant across consoles and PC
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in games as a lighting artist, with a focus on realistic lighting environments and PBR based pipelines
- Shipped at least one AAA title on modern consoles
- Experience working with the team at every stage of the project, from preproduction to release
- Familiarity with visual effects and shader systems
- Understanding of color grading and other post process effects
- Ability to work independently, problem solve on the fly, and collaborate efficiently across disciplines in a small, fast moving team
Good to Have
- Previous experience working with Unreal Engine 4 or Unreal Engine 5 a huge plus
- Experience working with outsource partners.
