inXile entertainment is an Xbox Game Studio led by Brian Fargo. We specialize in deep, reactive, and narrative-focused RPGs, but also love exploring other genres. Our studio is filled with passionate developers who love making games, and playing them.

inxile Entertainment is looking for an experienced Senior Lighting Artist to join us in creating environments for a high-profile game. Requirements:

  • Passion for creating evocative and immersive lighting that captures the imagination of the viewer
  • Expert proficiency in lighting photoreal environments and characters
  • Strong understanding of physically based rendering
  • Industry leading skill in composition and color theory as it relates to creating awe-inspiring imagery
  • Demonstrable professional experience as a lighting artist on shipped real-time projects
  • Skilled traditional art skills with the ability to creatively concept lighting solutions
  • Highly proficient at a variety of lighting methods including both real-time and baked
  • Well versed in advanced lighting and rendering features such as raytracing and image-based lighting
  • Firm understanding of the performance requirements for any possible lighting approach
  • Outstanding concept interpretation skills with the ability to design and define the undefined
  • Solid overall grasp of game asset creation techniques that relate to surfaces and lighting
  • Ability to research, document, concept, manage, and design large and small projects
  • Intermediate skill in creating materials and shaders in Unreal Engine 4
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate professionally with peers working on related assets
  • Portfolio demonstrating a variety of real-time lighting examples

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and push the limits of the lighting and rendering pipeline
  • Help to define and strive to improve asset creation techniques to achieve superior lighting results
  • Constantly push the team and visual bar to meet industry leading standards
  • Imagine and craft realistic exterior and interior lighting for environments and characters in Unreal
  • Work closely with the project Art Director and Leads to ensure the vision of the game is achieved
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary departments to hit visual and functional goals
  • Seek out and define environment creation improvements and efficiency efforts
  • Create and publish workflow and process documentation
  • Provide written and verbal feedback to artists that are internal and external
  • Mentor and train artists to promote best practices and achievable workflows
  • Understand and communicate visual direction through words and images

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Training and tutoring skills are a plus
  • Practical knowledge of capturing HDRI probes
  • Experience in authoring real-time skies and Blueprint coding in Unreal
  • Skill in authoring atmospheric VFX in Cascade or Niagara in Unreal
  • Experience working on a first and\or third person game
  • Previous experience working in feature film or tv animation pipeline
  • Bachelor’s degree in Art & Design
