Apex Legends team is looking for an experienced Technical Level Designer who will help us develop exciting interactive gameplay events and elements, and full levels. We're imagining someone with both the creative and technical skills to bring high-level game design ideas to life. You have a strong understanding of basic engineering principles, and value fun and fairness in a competitive multiplayer setting.
What You'll Do…
- Develop design documents, prototyping, iterating, testing, and problem solving
- Design and build engaging in-game levels that are successful in terms of flow, variety, and fun.
- Facilitating communication and coordination between departments to ensure the vision is clearly understood.
- Work with design leadership, design team, artists, code, and animation departments to deliver designs that epitomize the creative vision of the game.
- Design, then implement gameplay systems and features consistent with project goals & tenets.
- Validate your gameplay hypotheses through rapid prototyping and team feedback.
- Be conscientious such that your work does not incur unplanned technical debt.
- Make your gameplay inventions genuinely enticing to players, enriching the fiction of the world without compromising playable function and the long-term health of the game.
Ideally, you will have…
- 3+ years professional experience as a technical level designer for shipped AAA games
- Fluency in multiple scripting and programming languages
Experience working with a game engine, using scripting tools to orchestrate events, and implementing 3D work into the pipeline. - Extensive understanding of level design process including level flow, engagement, structure, pacing, environmental storytelling, testing, etc.
- Experience in rapid prototyping to test feasibility of concepts.
- A track record of driving features to completion
- A strong appreciation of competitive PvP games
- Ability to pitch game design concepts in a clear, detailed manner, through strong written and verbal skills.
- Strong understanding of level editing packages such as Maya, Unity, UDK, or other proprietary tools.
- A positive, solution-oriented attitude and passion about the play experience, with a wealth of knowledge across a wide range of games.
