Overview
Arkadium is seeking an exceptional and experienced software engineer to build the best HTML5 game engine to support the development of our award-winning games.
This role is open to candidates based in Portugal and will be 100% remote with occasional in person events.
Business hours are 9-18 WEST (UTC+1).
Responsibilities
- Work closely with our engine developer to maintain our internal JavaScript-based game engine.
- Research new third-party tools, libraries, SDKs, and APIs to integrate to our engine.
- Develop specialized technical knowledge to constantly improve our engine to be best-in-class.
- Write documentation for engine features and provide technical support for external developers.
- Be an expert on web technology standards and trends, and actively employ best practices to the codebase.
- Architect and write scalable/modular code for long-term systems that will be used by multiple clients.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science
- 5+ year experience developing engines, games, or web applications
- Experience with PixiJS or similar tech (e.g., Phaser, CreateJS, HTML5 canvas games)
- Portfolio of published technical projects
- Strong knowledge of HTML5, JavaScript/TypeScript, NodeJS, and other web-based technologies
- Strong knowledge of programming fundamentals, game architecture, and math
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, as role is expected to communicate with external developers
- Major plus if strong working experience with one or more of the following:
- Three.js
- React Native
- Unity and C#
- Mobile app development on Android and iOS
- Multiplayer networking
- Web accessibility
- WebAssembly
