Senior Gameplay Designer
At Improbable, we’re bringing together technology and games to create new opportunities and experiences. In order to achieve this, we need unique perspectives from diverse people, empowered to revolutionise how online games are made, delivered and paid for.
We believe one of the biggest, most impactful changes to the way we live our lives is going to come from the medium of games. Realising new communities, societies and vocations through virtual worlds is what drives our people and gives them purpose.
Your Mission
You will be a foundational hire in our newly formed UK Games Studio, helping us build the next generation of Games on our SpatialOS platform.
As part of the Improbable Game Studio, you will have an opportunity to define the next generation of deeply interactive online experiences. Help us create games that allow for new depths of simulation, destruction, and physical interaction at an unprecedented scale. Our technology allows us to experiment with genuinely new mechanics, both big and small. We're learning new skills within a massively networked environment that we believe is the future of gaming.
Areas for impact
- You’ll be responsible for designing, implementing, testing and iterating gameplay for the minute to minute and hour to hour loops
- You’ll receive direction from Creative and Design Directors to guide your ideas, and have ownership of working within the direction together with System and Level Designers
- We believe that proof of fun is in the build, and we rely on you to deliver gameplay experiences in playable prototypes. Once we’ve found the right loops, you will tweak, balance and iterate together with designers, programmers and artists and evolve them during live service. We believe that listening to our players is important, and you know how to listen to playtest feedback and data.
- You like gameplay loops and you analyse and break down every game you play until you understand each building block
- You like combining existing systems into exciting, engaging and complex experiences
- You’ve designed, implemented, tested and iterated gameplay encounters focusing on combat, exploration, replayability, or navigation
- You can take gameplay ideas from an initial idea into fully playable experiences by yourself
- You know the importance of teaching players how to understand what they need to do to succeed in a game
- You know that quality is achieved with deliberate and targeted iteration
- You’ve worked on live service games and know the value and importance of listening to player data and feedback to inform your work
- You have experience shipping AAA games as a Gameplay Designer and have been part of every stage of developing a game, including Live Service.
NB. While we think the above experience could be important, we’re keen to hear from people that believe they have valuable experience to bring to the role. If you identify with the team and mission, but not all of our requirements, then please still apply!!
