Senior Game Designer (contract, potential to hire)

Ustwo is looking for multiple freelance game designers to join our team working on a 6-month connected product experience. You’ll work with a tight-knit cross-discipline team of developers, designers, artists, and project managers. This role is to start as soon as mid-January, running to the end of the project (end of June 2022).
At ustwo NYC, we are working towards being a product design and immersive technology powerhouse. To do this, we structure our team around versatile designers who are constantly developing and broadening their wide skill sets. Our teams are highly skilled and multifaceted, collaborating across all disciplines involved in the design and technology process. Our products span across mobile and web, as well as immersive technologies such as AR / VR, all the way to wearables and IoT devices.
Role & Responsibilities
- Design and iterate features and mechanics in collaboration with the Lead Designer
- Communicate your ideas and oversee those through to implementation with minimal supervision from leadership
- Work in-editor, prototyping and iterating on mechanics and gameplay
- Origi nate mechanics and associated details/documentation that contributes to the desired player experience
- Facilitate play testing including creating hypotheses, synthesizing findings, and recommending an action plan to be prioritized with the wider team
- Work closely with other disciplines, leaning on design skills from everywhere in the team
Requirements
- 3+ years experience as a Game Designer for mobile, PC or console games
- Experience working in Unity engine
- Strong communication skills, both with other disciplines internally and with clients
- Experience completing several game cycles
- Experience contributing content, mechanics, and features to an existing title
- Ability to work within an existing design system, establish a deep understanding, and add meaningfully to it
- Understanding of real-time production pipelines in order to collaborate with other disciplines
- A great knowledge of games and an excellent understanding of what makes them work
- Have worked closely with clients and stakeholders
Bonus
- Have experience with agile project ceremonies/methodologies
- Have experience from several game projects of different sizes (small to mid-size)
- Have worked on full production circles (not only a small part of a game)
- Have experience with mobile games and/or endless runner games
- Have supplemental skills in coding, creating art & animation, etc.
This is a full-time/40-hour a week contract position starting mid-January and lasting through June. Please provide a link to your online portfolio as well as any released games you have contributed to.
