Senior Game Designer - Commander

The Game Design team is a talented, vibrant, collaborative team dedicated to making playing Magic as fun as it can be. Game Designers on our team touch cards from beginning to end, working with all the various design disciplines to ensure we’re making successful products. This includes card design, mechanic design, product exploration, and many other design tasks.

This Senior Game Design role draws on your Magic knowledge, your curiosity and enthusiastic thirst for learning, and a drive to make great gameplay. You’ll collaborate with our team of outstanding designers to play and refine products serving a broad variety of audiences.

What you'll do:

See the forest, see the trees. We’re looking for an eloquent, experienced design mind that can strategize at a format level, design at a deck level, refine at a card level, and collaborate effectively to deliver outstanding gameplay. While not exclusively, this role will focus heavily on the Commander format and products. We’re always looking to grow, evolve and innovate within Magic Game Design, and this role is no exception.

• Develop Commander play experiences at the product level
• Serve on a small team of designers crafting one of our flagship sets
• Collaborate with peers to review sets, improve individual card designs, deck themes and above all, achieve amazingly fun gameplay
• Mentor less experienced designers on the team
• Participate in team meetings and discussions by adding constructive, reasoned, provocative insights to the conversation

What you’ll bring:

• 4+ yrs experience as a Game Designer
• A strong foundation in the Magic TCG, especially the Commander format
• Familiarity with all of Magic’s play expressions
• Self-motivated curiosity, active listening and creative thinking
• Positive, energetic, and eloquent communication to improve our shared vision
• Flexible, adaptable attitude with a constant thirst for knowledge
