Working with minimal supervision, the Senior Game Artist will work primarily with the Creative Director and game producers on creating art for Kongregate’s mobile game titles. The role requires handling end-to-end art requirements for a game, from sketching out concepts and storyboards, developing art styles, integrating assets into Unity, making UX and UI mocks. This person can adapt to different styles for different mobile game titles. Occasionally, the Senior Game Artist may be called upon to illustrate artwork for creative ads we use for user acquisition and marketing. The Senior Game Artist will also mentor the other Artists on the team.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*

● Work with the Creative Director, game producers, and other team members to draw and illustrate art for Kongregate's game titles

● Work with the game team to define and develop an artistic style for games

● Create concept art and storyboards which help communicate the proposed visual elements during pre-production

● Create concept art, characters, backgrounds, and elements for UI for working titles

● Create production-ready 2D art

● Technical ability and adaptability with the team’s tools used for daily operations

● Create 3D mocks and models

● Import and integrate assets into Unity

● Help to develop, set, and follow standard production practices

BASIC AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE)

● Accredited Associate degree in Fine Arts or Graphic Design required although a portfolio of work demonstrating a comparable level of education may be accepted in substitution; accredited Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred

● At least 4 years of game art experience required

● Multiple years of experience in the game industry

● Experience working on Mobile games

● Possess a portfolio demonstrating a range of work and originality of style

● Experience with Flash or Unity preferred

● Portfolio with examples of related work (focus on 2D characters).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, JOB SKILLS, ABILITIES

● Expert ability to draw from life and have knowledge of anatomy and architecture.

● Expert knowledge of basic art principles, including line, shape, form, color, and perspective.

● Expert understanding of multi-faceted art design roles

● Proficient ability to work with UI/UX

● Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite

● Knowledge of Blender, or other 3D software

● Proficient design ability

● Proficient knowledge of the production process and life-cycle, including the roles of other disciplines

● Expert ability to meet deadlines in a fast-changing environment

● Proficient knowledge of concept development, animation, layout composition, color theory, typography, and great drawing skills

● Proficient character design skills.

● Proficient organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple, overlapping, and potentially conflicting priorities

● Proficient ability to meet demanding, evolving and frequently overlapping deadlines

● Proficient ability to respond favorably to frequent feedback, including multiple and potentially conflicting revisions

● Proficient ability to complete design projects quickly, as needed, to ensure that the department's production objectives are achieved

● Proficient ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with other design professionals, including the ability to respond favorably to creative differences of opinion and to handle stress in a manner acceptable to others
