Senior Full Stack BI Web Developer

So we have a team onsite at WetaFX supporting the artists and the IT teams do outstanding things. Our IT Software Department (ITSD) team at Weta is made up of Business Analysts, Data Scientists, Co-ordinators and Developers. As a tight-knit team who provides applications, APIs, BI and data integration solutions to the entire company, we are now looking for someone new Full Stack BI Web Developer to join this team.

The opportunity

The Weta Digital IT Software Department (ITSD) team is a tight-knit team who provides applications, APIs, BI and data integration solutions to the entire Weta company. We pride ourselves on building positive relationships with our customers and doing everything we can to make their jobs easier. We are now looking for a new Full Stack BI Web Developer to join us!

What you’ll be doing

The ITSD team looks after low-level disk and data services and high-level Production and Business applications. These are mostly written in Python and sit above and below a sophisticated VFX pipeline. We build custom software that has tests, CI and effective monitoring and alerting. Alongside adding new features – or working on large-scale projects - the team is constantly improving and modernizing our systems to work at an ever-increasing scale.

While this role would involve supporting and developing a number of full-stack web applications, we also have significant client API, data synching, and ETL commitments.

What we’re looking for

We'd love to hear from you if you've got a desire to learn, fantastic problem solving abilities, outstanding verbal and written communication skills and experience in the following:

• Maintaining API and data synching services. Strong data warehousing and ETL experience will put you at a distinct advantage.
• Postgres, MySQL or similar enterprise-level database server experience: we both create and look after a lot of relational data. You should be comfortable reading explain plans; optimising complex multi-join queries; selecting useful indexes; and ensuring that the database planner is working with accurate statistics.
• Javascript, React+Redux (preferred), Backbone, jQuery).
• Developing for Linux hosts.
• Software provisioning and containerization tools (Ansible, Docker, Kubectl - or similar).

You might also have:

• Business Intelligence visualization and reporting tools - especially Tableau.
• Python is definitely preferred, but experience in other back-end languages won’t disqualify you - so long as you can quickly become proficient in Python.
• Experience with NoSQL and full-text search databases (Redis, Elasticsearch, Solr) and debugging low-level issues (networking, filesystem, strace etc).
