Senior Environment Technical Artist

Obsidian Entertainment is looking for an experienced and highly collaborative Senior Technical Artist to join us in creating our next high-profile RPG.
This position requires a solid understanding of the current concerns, performance monitoring tools, and pipelines for open world development in Unreal Engine 4 for PCs and consoles. The Senior Technical Artist will partner with the art and technical directors, team leads, programmers, and production artists, to help create magical and highly performant worlds for our players to explore.
Senior Technical Artists are expected to work with engineers and artists alike. This person will be self-motivated, manage time efficiently, and react quickly to changing tasks.
This position requires the ability to work onsite or in a hybrid capacity at the Obsidian Entertainment office in Irvine, CA.
Responsibilities
- Work across departments to develop and implement key workflows, tools, and rendering features in service of established visual targets
- Ensure all environment technical guidelines and performance requirements are met by members of the team
- Advocate for new and emerging content creation techniques with an emphasis on rapid, performant asset authoring
- Partner with directors and production to plan and coordinate tasks
- Actively seek out, incorporate, and provide feedback to and from peers
- Provide guidance and mentorship to other artists
- Maintain high motivation and contribute to a positive working environment
Requirements
- 4+ years specializing in technical art for game environments on console and PC in contemporary engines (e.g. Unreal Engine 4, Unity, Lumberyard, Snowdrop, etc.)
- Thorough understanding of modern environment art construction processes and methods, including performance debugging tools and processes
- Organized with excellent spoken and written communication skills
- Excellent time management, creative process, and production process skills
- Experience working with diverse teams and the ability to effectively balance the needs of game design, art, and programming
Pluses
- Experience working on first-person and/or open world games
- Experience developing in Houdini
- Familiarity with common scripting languages (Python, MAXScript, MEL script, etc.)
- Experience working with game engine code in C++ and/or tool development in C#
Portfolio Requirements
- A web portfolio demonstrating expertise in environment technical art for PC and console games
- Samples, demonstrations, or documentation of tools pipelines developed to overcome past challenges
