Atomic Arcade is a brand-new video game development studio located in the Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina area led by industry veterans from AAA game and film studios. We are in the process of staffing up our development team with outstanding talent to build our first multi-platform, AAA game - a bold, new take on the GI JOE Universe starring the legendary character Snake Eyes! This is an excellent opportunity to not only build an outstanding AAA experience but to also help form the core foundations for the studio and team to build upon. We are looking for an exceptionally skilled Senior Environment Artist with a strong passion for worldbuilding to join our team. In this role, you will be building defining environments that match the feel of our world. This role requires strong attention to detail, an eye for beautiful lighting and composition as well as skills in crafting real-time assets. You are collaborative and creative in your efforts to push tools, styles, and the execution of immersive, well-crafted environments. We are considering on-site and hybrid working options as well as full-time remote candidates.
What You'll Do:
- Translate concept art and design ideas into 3D worlds.
- Construct 3D environments to include modeling, mapping, materials, lighting, VFX, atmospherics, collision, and gameplay related setups.
- Model and texture a wide variety of props/assets.
- Build shaders for environment assets, volumetrics, decals, ambient effects, etc.
- Collaborate with the team to design and layout gameplay spaces.
- Develop levels from whitebox through final set dressing and lighting.
- Assist in establishing pipelines for the best results.
- Help set and maintain the high quality bar for the game.
- Assist in scoping work for on time milestone deliveries.
- Thoroughly understand the art pipeline and integrates assets into the game.
What You'll Bring:
- Experience in realistic environments ranging from hard surface structures to organic foliage.
- Self-motivation, strong communication skills, and a great team-player attitude.
- Creative initiative and vision to take an environment to completion from either a detailed or simple concept image.
- Advanced understanding of current game art pipelines and methodologies
- Outstanding eye for lighting, materials, color theory, detail, and visual hierarchy.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with game designers, programmers and other art team members in a creative spirit.
- Highly skilled in relevant software, 3DS Max, Maya, Photoshop, Zbrush, Substance, etc.
- Great texturing skills and experience with PBR & materials.
- Experience managing and maintaining entire world assets.
- Experience with giving and receiving feedback.
- Experience multi-tasking and adapting easily to change.
- Passion for making and playing games.
- Enthusiastic, positive, team-oriented; must have the ability to interact and collaborate with all departments and teams.
- Self-sufficient and self-motivated, can perform duties with little oversight.
