Senior Engineering Manager, Avatars

As a Senior Engineering Manager, Avatars you’ll work in our Game Engine group to lead engineers responsible for bringing avatars to the next level at Roblox. We’ll build avatars that come to life through natural movement that reacts to the environment and physics automatically. Avatars will be so easy to build that professional-quality content creation will be as easy as playing a video game. And you’ll ship modular & extendible architecture that’s built for the future when we scale far beyond the 6M+ daily active users on Roblox today.

You are:

• Innovative : You are eager to prioritize high-impact projects that push the state of the art instead of implementing existing avatar technology on a new platform. You look for creative solutions to difficult problems.
  
  
• Experienced : 5+ years of management experience, at least 10 direct reports and/or TLMs, and a track record of hiring and growing exceptional engineers. You have a BS in computer science (or a related field). You know C++ and use modern software development & testing techniques to deploy high-quality code.
  
  
• Domain Expert : You know avatar technology really well and can go deep on one or more technology verticals. You’ve architected and built at least one significant avatar system in C++. Alternatively, you are a domain expert in a related field with relevant expertise that you’re excited to apply to avatars.
  
  
• Collaborative : You lean heavily into collaboration and teamwork to find good ideas and make them better. You give engineers autonomy while keeping them aligned with team goals.
  
  
• Good at execution : You know how to consistently deliver on time and ship incremental deliverables that achieve an ambitious long-term goal. Your engineers write code that is tested, monitored, clearly designed, documented, and efficient.

You Will:

• Build and lead engineers in one avatar technology vertical (eg animation) and inspire them to build industry-leading innovation that affect millions of people.
  
  
• Develop roadmap, charter and vision. Own and deliver complex technical projects from the planning stage through execution.
  
  
• Provide guidance on architecture and design, and define processes for launching features, including shipping incremental value on long-term projects.
  
  
• Mentor junior & senior engineers to grow the scope and impact of your team.
  
  
• Collaborate with teams in Game Engine to solve hard problems with consistent and scalable architecture.
  
  
• Work closely with engineering leadership across Roblox to live out our company values & vision.
