About ProbablyMonsters™ Family of Studios
ProbablyMonsters Family of Studios is developing 3 simultaneous AAA games in multiple genres. Since our launch in 2019, we have built 3 studios so far. Firewalk™ is working on a new multiplayer game to be exclusively published by PlayStation. Cauldron™ is developing a single-player, adventure-driven game and our RPG Team has a next-gen open world experience in progress.
We recently announced the largest Series A raise in game development history at $200 MILLION to continue building long-lasting game studios. We are committed to providing our teams with the resources and creative environment needed to foster stable, rewarding, and life-long careers. Our Monster mindset of people-first, our ethos of predictable excellence, and our purpose of inspiring a healthier industry has attracted 200+ likeminded professionals who unapologetically defend the sustainable home we have built together, a home free of storms that allows for focused creativity.
We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer specializing in Observability to join our Data Insights team. Data Insights is a team within ProbablyMonsters whose goal is to unlock the potential of data. In this role, you will empower our studios to measure and understand how their systems behave. This position requires the ability to use data from various sources to improve engineering efficiency and help within ProbablyMonsters to be data-driven.
Who You Are:
- You take pride in being able to dramatically improve engineering efficiency by making key data easily accessible and meaningful to all.
- You can easily boil down a large set of metrics into those that matter most.
- You’re an advocate for instrumenting systems to eliminate all guesswork about what are doing and how they are being used.
- You know how and when to leverage existing services to build solutions faster and cheaper.
- You enjoy engaging with teams to identify their needs and provide them with insight.
- You are self-sufficient, self-motivating, and unafraid to ask for help.
What You Will Do:
- Take part in defining the vision for observability within ProbablyMonsters.
- Evaluate existing observability technologies and decide how best to leverage those platforms.
- Build upon chosen observability platforms, implementing whatever is missing, to create a centralized observability service easily leveraged by any team.
- Empower engineering teams to collect logs, metrics, and traces from any source.
- Evangelize best practices with respect to code instrumentation and system performance analysis.
- Identify opportunities to share tooling, instrumentation, and dashboards for core technology used across all studios (i.e. common development workflows, UE4 game engine).
- Create automation to make your tools and systems deployable, highly available, and self-healing.
- Collaborate closely with other engineers across the entire ProbablyMonsters family of studios.
- Promote a culture of quality, reliability, and customer focus.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Five years of experience working with observability solutions.
- Two years of experience working with public cloud solutions.
- Experience in a live-ops role through at least one major game launch or equivalent services release.
- Demonstrated experience debugging and resolving problems in complex distributed systems.
- Experience working with managed observability platforms such as Datadog, Grafana Cloud, New Relic, Honeycomb.io, etc.
- Proficient at defining infrastructure as code and deployment pipelines using tools like Terraform, Pulumi, etc.
- Extensive experience in creating dashboards using visualization tools such as Grafana, Tableau, Looker, etc.
- Ability to write code in Python, Java, Go or equivalent language(s).
