Position Mission
As the Senior Encounter Designer you are responsible for leading the ongoing development of high-quality raid and dungeon content in World of Warcraft. This includes creative design, technical implementation, and careful attention to details such as balance and polish. The ideal candidate will have proven design experience, outstanding people skills, an aptitude for critical thinking and analysis, a keen eye for aesthetics, boundless creativity, and a longstanding passion for playing games.
This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The potential home studio for this role is Boston, MA. However, we understand each person’s circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore other possible options, including remote work arrangements.
Responsibilities :
- Translate game concepts into specific raids, dungeons, and other encounters, including creative design, technical details, balance, and polish.
- Take design concepts/features from pitch to implementation
- Stay aware of various play styles to make encounters that are engaging to, and inclusive of, a wide variety of players.
- Communicate ideas cross-functionally to solicit feedback and ensure support during game encounter design development.
- Work closely with the production team to maintain timelines, meet deadlines, and to work through encounter design revisions as needed.
- Coordinate with the environment art, level design, and narrative teams to design cohesive encounters based on story and environmental details.
- Ensure research is conducted for encounters.
- Mentor junior designers
Minimum Requirements:
Experience
- 4 years experience working in design pipelines for live games or a SaaS product
- 2 years of demonstrated experience with game development best practices in a professional or academic setting
Knowledge & Skills
- Deep familiarity with game content creation best practices (encounter design, level design, or other)
- Proficient knowledge with industry standard tools such as excel, game engines, and other proprietary tools required
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively cross-functionally
Extra Points
- Excellent communications skills that can be leveraged for comprehensive documentation
- Knowledge, understanding, and familiarity with Warcraft Universe and Lore
- Familiarity with game engines and engine editors preferred

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $80,800.00 - $149,400.00 Annual. This base pay range is for the U.S. and is not applicable to locations outside of the U.S. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
