As Senior Director of Communications, Games, you’ll helm the team responsible for Gearbox Publishing’s global product communications strategy, including press relations, social media, influencer engagement, and crisis communications for games small and large, across the full spectrum of platforms and business models. You’ll manage, lead, and grow a team of on-site and remote professionals responsible for finding, fostering, and fortifying relationships with the professional and consumer audiences of Gearbox’s games.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, build, and chart the future of a team of public relations, social media, community, and influencer professionals that make up the Games Communications department
  • Ensure the ongoing performance, retention, and onboarding of communications department teammates with empathy and effectiveness in mind
  • Your team is responsible for:
    • Partnering with marketing counterparts to develop and execute communication strategies for global marketing campaigns
    • Owning the ideation of and working closely with Development teams and key stakeholders to evangelize and execute comms strategies and activations.
    • Establishing and maintaining long-term game communication framework materials, including fact sheets, KMQA, community/player insights, as well as scenario planning and crisis communications plans
    • Selecting agency partners to assist on tactical execution based on a thorough RFP process
    • Managing the reputation of our games with media and the player community
    • Interpreting and communicating community feedback and making strategic recommendations on related resolutions back to product leadership
    • Building and cultivating ongoing, deep relationships with media and influencers
    • Setting the standard of KPI and results reporting to key stakeholders after major activations, beats, and events
    • Ensuring the social media accounts of our games reflect current best practices of their respective channels and support key marketing and messaging goals
    • Consistently engaging with the latest trends in social media and maximizing channel efficiency (e.g. advise when new channels should be spun up or old ones spun down)
  • Own and manage all department budgets, contracts, staffing, and spending decisions

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 to 10 years of communications work in games with a focus on at least two of the key verticals of press, influencer, and/or social media work
  • Experience working with complex, multi-disciplinary teams and juggling multiple stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience at conceiving and deploying proactive strategic programs
  • Demonstrated experience managing communications crises
  • The desire to work with a cross-functional, integrated team to deliver award-winning work
  • Respect for the value of a diverse team and the desire to build a team that reflects the diversity of the world
  • Direct management experience
