Your Mission
Blizzard Entertainment is looking for an experienced and motivated lawyer to join our in-house legal team as a close, trusted business partner, providing advice on a wide variety of legal issues.
What You’ll Do
- Assess and advise on legal issues and risks for Blizzard’s production, marketing, PR, publishing, and other teams across the business, including Battle.net, World of Warcraft and Diablo
- Support Blizzard’s platform operations, including by supervising distribution, ecommerce, and regulatory issues
- Negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, including content development, distribution, e-commerce, talent, and product integration agreements
- Manage and act as point of escalation for team of product counsel and legal clearance professionals
- Respond promptly to a wide range of requests from across the business and legal teams
- Collaborate with international and cross-functional legal colleagues to provide global guidance on diverse legal issues
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate and admission to California State Bar in good standing or admission to another State Bar and willingness and qualifications to be “Registered In-House Counsel”
- 10+ years of experience as a practicing lawyer at a reputable firm and/or in-house department
- Extensive experience and knowledge in drafting, negotiating and interpreting complex commercial and guild/union agreements
- Strategic and creative thinking, exercising balanced and practical business judgment
- Outstanding written and oral communications, with the ability to effectively communicate with colleagues across the business
- Attention to detail
- Common sense, good judgment and desire to work hard in a fast-paced environment
- Team player, leadership qualities, and ability to independently handle multiple, diverse projects simultaneously and under deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to proactively identify and explain legal risks and creative solutions
- Capacity to understand Blizzard’s business (including its games and Battle.net services) and strategy and apply it to proactively managing legal risks
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic industry and where there is ambiguity and flex in the business and legal environment
- Strong ethics, collaboration and influencing skills
- Familiarity with privacy and data protection issues
