Senior Director, Design

GSN Games, a leader in mobile and social games development, is seeking a Senior Design Director with a passion for crafting and expanding enduring games to join our casual games studio in the San Francisco Bay Area. The studio’s primary game is Solitaire Tripeaks, a top-50 grossing mobile game since 2018 and a leader in adapting a variety of gameplay mechanics to cater to the incredibly broad audience of solitaire players world-wide.
What You’ll Do:
As the leader of our studio’s talented team of all-around designers, you’ll shepherd the team to evolve and shape our creative strategies, oversee execution against them and be a top-notch coach and mentor. You will oversee ongoing feature and metagame design efforts for Solitaire Tripeaks (a robust and dynamic game eco-system of its own) and ensure we’re utilizing a great design approach and the right designers for potential new titles in development. You will lead the team to analyze the game across various aspects of design to look for opportunities to improve everything from reducing player friction, ensuring we have virtuous play & monetization cycles for the player to establishing and implementing the right elements of continuity throughout the game.
You will also work alongside a talented crew of product managers, market researchers and data analysts to validate what direction(s) our various design efforts should take and ascertaining the real impact and effectiveness of the team’s efforts.
You Will:
- Manage and coach our team of designers, each with different specialties and backgrounds.
- Regularly review the product for continuity and recommend changes to future and existing features, user journeys and new opportunities to enhance the game(s).
- Oversee designs for continuity across the product where it makes sense
- Ensure the team is utilizing healthy user-centered design methods and best practices
- Ensure designs align with the team’s goals and efforts to deliver the kinds of great experiences that ultimately help us reach the KPI targets we strive for.
- Lead the effort to identify new & better design methods that will level-up our team’s efforts and expand their skillsets.
- Evaluate the current and future system designs to propose new strategies and improvements.
- Work in concert with our other senior leaders in the studio to guide & inform the overall studio culture, processes and ensuring we’re utilizing our talented people in the best ways possible.
About You:
- 7+ years in the games industry (free to play games and mobile games experience strongly preferred) in a game design and/or system design capacity
- 3+ years experience managing designers of various experience levels and design specialty areas. You have extensive management experience and know how to delegate, grow and mentor savvy designers and people.
- Practitioner of user-centered design principles and are excited to mentor a team on its effective use.
- Passionate about systems designs and the power it holds to engage players, unlock retention and create opportunities for healthy monetization.
- Thrive in an environment that uses data to evaluate the efficacy of work and use data to learn how to do better.
