Senior Designer

Paradox Tectonic seeks a versatile and creative Senior Designer to join our team for a new IP. You will work alongside the Creative Director, and manage external designers to create exciting, memorable, and replayable content.
We're looking for an experienced, self-starting design collaborator that is also excited about directing external design partners. Our ideal candidate brings with them a deep understanding of a diverse and predominantly female leaning PC gamer audience.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
- Leverage a deep understanding of existing systems to design compelling content and an emotionally satisfying sense of open ended progression or discovery for the player
- Utilize a robust set of content creation tools including some structured scripting to rapidly execute and iterate on your design concepts
- Work with the narrative designer and creative director to create compelling opportunities for player driven story telling
- Craft content and mechanics which provide a satisfying emotional experience for the player.
- Design and document new features and systems that fit harmoniously with the existing foundations of the game
- Direct external partners to help them create compelling content consistent with our desired tone and game economy
- Collaborate with our engineers in the creation of practical tools and pipelines for quest, events, dialogue and item creation
- Provide insight into your workflow and actionable feedback so that our suite of tools is as efficient as we can make them for production. Advocate for more/better tools and systems when needed while continuing to work constructively within existing scope, schedule, and toolset constraints.
- Self driven play testing of implemented work to insure it functions as intended and is delivered to a consistent quality level
What You Bring (Qualifications)
- Experience as a single-player Content Designer, Level Designer, or QuestDesigner on multiple shipped, professional PC or console game titles.
- A player-first mentality with an emphasis on enabling the player to make their own choices and tell their own stories
- Experience with iterative development and rapid prototyping.
- Enthusiasm to learn and master the flexible and robust in game scripting system to execute your own vision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills that allow you to effectively express your intentions and needs to a distributed team
- Discipline to self manage, self task and self evaluate. You will be given a lot of creative and artistic freedom while being expected to consistently demonstrate progress and keep to mutually agreed upon deadlines.
Nice to Haves
- Understanding of narrative principles and the ability to execute your own in game writing alongside work from professional writers
- Being located in the Bay Area and able to travel to the office in Berkeley 2 days a week
Scope: Full-time and permanent
Can be remote but expected to keep consistent work hours with a team situated in the Bay Area
