THE OPPORTUNITY
Standing Stone Games is seeking a Senior Designer of Content to join the Dungeons & Dragons Online (DDO) team. DDO is built on the backbone of hundreds of complex handcrafted instanced dungeon adventures. This position is responsible for designing and building more of those adventures. Reporting to the Senior Game Designer II in our Content department of the DDO team, this position will be responsible for:
- Dungeon Content Creation
- Designing and implementing instanced dungeon level experiences.
- Crafting the dialog and environmental story telling of your dungeon experience.
- Iterating on your dungeons once live in response to performance indicators and customer feedback.
- Adhering to Content creation requirements & best practices
- Learning proprietary tools quickly, and working within a complex asset development pipeline.
- Ensuring that your dungeon experiences are consistent with the established game lore and with overall story goals of a given release.
- Working closely with an internal team of artists, quality assurance testers, and other disciplines to ensure that your dungeons meet quality, performance, and licensor requirements.
- Collaboration with remote peers & managers
- Participate in remote team brainstorming sessions around overarching story themes that will be used to draw inspiration for your specific dungeons within a given release
- Working remotely with coworkers on creative problem solving and troubleshooting during the development process
- Communicating progress and status of your work with managers, as well as participating in virtual peer-reviews of in-process work
- Periodically provide qualitative feedback on in-progress work of dungeons created by peers
What craft expertise you’ll have:
- Tools/Technology /Knowledge
- Required:
- Strong general computer skills and you are comfortable working with computer software tools, including learning proprietary tools
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, specifically Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Teams
- Some proficiency with Project Management platforms such as the Atlassian suite or similar, specifically Confluence and Jira
- Some proficiency with file version control platforms such as Perforce or similar
- Desired:
- Experience with 3D game tools, such as Unity, Unreal, or Maya
- Craft Design Experience
- Required:
- Demonstrated RPG/MMO level and quest design sensibilities.
- Ability to receive feedback on encounters, levels, and instances you’ve made, as well as provide constructive feedback for instances created by other members of the Content team.
- Highly motivated and self-directed, with a desire to perform well and take initiative on tasks.
- Desired:
- Familiarity with the tabletop Dungeons & Dragons brand.
- Experience with custom scripting.
Other Criteria
- Years of Experience, Education, and/or Certification…
- Required: Degree in Game Design, or at least 4 years of comparable experience.
- Desired: Experience developing content for a live game service or SaaS product, especially a stable project far past its initial launch.
- Additionally, you should possess
- Strong communication skills that contribute to a positive and uplifting team atmosphere
- Vivid imagination, particularly around storytelling
