About the role
As Senior Data Engineer, you will work directly with the rest of the data team to build, maintain and improve data across all stages of the data pipeline. In addition to providing useful data to the BI and Analytics teams, you will participate in enhancing data quality across the company, boosting our decision-making process and growing our business.
You will implement the technical vision for our data platform, coordinating with and holding other engineers accountable as you all work to deliver that future facing data platform; you will assist in the effort to shape the technology choices, standards and architectural considerations for Fortis’ data environment.
What you will do
- Collaborate with the rest of the data team to develop and maintain a large-scale, low latency data platform
- Gather business requirements and translate these into technical specifications for implementation
- Build applications to meet business requirements on the aforementioned platform
- Provide guidance and share your expertise with more junior engineers
- Perform code reviews, and suggest enhancements to existing code
- Participate in the decision-making process related to data architecture
- Collaborate with BI, Analytics, Data Science and game teams in a dynamic environment
Required qualifications
- Experience participating with other engineers in large scale technical implementations
- Hands-on experience working with massive scale, cloud native data pipelines and stores
- Extensive experience with batch based data warehousing technologies
- Strong experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases
- Demonstrated knowledge in CI/CD deployment models
- A strong bias to action, while considering aspects such as data privacy, security and compliance with all relevant legislation
- Experience with Data Warehousing solutions like Snowflake/BigQuery/ClickHouse
- Experience with Data Transformation tools like DBT
- Practical knowledge of BI tools such as Looker, Tableau, PowerBI
- Experience with workflow automation platforms such as Airflow, Prefect
Preferred qualifications
- Familiarity with data streaming technologies such as Kafka and/or Kinesis
- Proficiency with a “standard” Data Science Toolkit (e.g. Pandas, Sci-Kit Learn, and a plot library)
- Experience in the game industry, preferably at significant scale
- Experience in developing and maintaining APIs for interacting with data services
