Senior Corporate Counsel, Employment & Investigations
Location: Preference for Northern California/ San Francisco/ Silicon Valley area. Remote considered for other U.S. locations.
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE or PlayStation) seeks a fair-minded Employment attorney who is well-versed in employment law and investigations. This position in the SIE legal team also supports PlayStation’s diverse employee population of corporate professionals, studio developers and high performing engineers. In this role, you will work collaboratively with human resources, legal professionals, business leaders, and a variety of teams across our global business.

Role Overview
- Act as subject matter expert in all areas of federal and state employment laws, bringing a business-first practical approach to risk management.
- Advise and provide legal counsel to Human Resources team, Employee Relations partners, HR Business Partners, senior business leadership, and others on PlayStation employment policies and practices.
- Support and advise on hiring, terminations, reorganizations, discipline, contingent worker issues, and other employee relations matters.
- Conduct and manage internal investigations into allegations of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, misconduct, and related matters.
- Supervise Employee Relations investigative team.
- Manage employment litigation and pre-litigation matters, both single-plaintiff and class/collection action matters, including directing outside counsel, settlement, arbitration, mediation, and other case resolution.
- Advise on FMLA, ADA, accommodations, leaves of absence, and wage-and-hour compliance.
- Engage and manage outside counsel and budgeting as needed in litigation, advice-and-counsel, and investigations.
- Draft, negotiate, and review employment contracts, severance agreements, policies and practices, temporary staffing agreements, and independent contractor agreements.
- Advise on conflicts of interest, gifts & entertainment policies, and other ethics matters.
- Support the review and development of employment legal-type training, including anti-harassment trainings, manager training, and other legally-required trainings.
What we’re looking for:
- J.D., active state bar license in good standing of at least one U.S. state bar.
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in employment law in an in-house and/or law firm capacity with an emphasis on employment litigation, employee relations advice-and-counsel, and leave of absence matters.
- In-house experience directly advising a business is strongly preferred.
- People manager experience preferred.
- Proven business partnering/relationship building capabilities.
- Good sense of humor is essential.
- Love of video games and/or the tech industry.
- Enjoys working on challenging issues and owning those issues.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
- Leveling dependent on candidate experience.
