Senior Console Game Programmer

As with most roles at PlayEveryWare, you'll be critical to the success of numerous high profile game projects and working alongside both indie and AAA development teams. No two projects are ever alike, each bringing exciting new challenges that will utilize your experience and leverage your ability to learn and adapt. Our focus on current and next generation consoles provides an opportunity to work on cutting edge technology.
We are currently hiring senior developers with strong console experience of all disciplines, and while we have specific needs, we hire based on our projects, skills for the job, the ability to learn more, teach-ability, and group needs. This opportunity is for a full-time position in either Seattle, WA, USA or Yokohama, Japan.
Senior Console Game Programmer
As a Senior Programmer, you will be expected to take ownership of significant features and systems, debug difficult problems, and provide guidance and feedback to help your teammates grow. You should be comfortable navigating an unfamiliar codebase. While you may have one or more areas of expertise, you aren’t afraid to venture into other domains. In addition to your technical skills, you should have strong communication skills, and work well with diverse cross-functional teams.
What You Will Do:
- Clearly communicate your work to members of your team and external partners
- Mentor fellow programmers in and out of your team
- Debug code with precision, diagnosing issues across multiple platforms
- Work with other engineers to evaluate new and current projects for technical risks and production planning
- Provide estimates for your tasks, and assist other developers with estimating their tasks
- Identify performance bottlenecks and implement solutions
- Study version histories and code documentation to solve present problems
- Merge branches and streams containing code from internal and external development teams
- Implement features in innovative ways
- Following existing coding standards and maintain efficient coding practices, and help establish good practices where needed
- Provide insight and guidance to developers for technical problems faced on other projects
- Ensure projects adhere to platform compliance requirements
- Participate in code reviews
What You'll Bring:
- BA/BS or MS Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- 3-5 years of experience in writing software in C++
- 5+ years in game development, or 10+ in a related industry
- Experience working on a large code base
- Experience with version control with Perforce and Git
- Experience developing, debugging and optimizing tools and technology for games on console.
- Development experience in multiple engineering disciplines (rendering, networking, platform specific optimizations, memory management, and cross-platform development).
- Ability to work in a wide variety of existing codebases with exemplary code comprehension.
- Strong leadership, awareness, adaptability, task management, and delegation skills while managing teams.
Additional Skills if you are interested in Graphics Programming:
- Ability to implement and debug modern and cutting edge rendering algorithms
- Expertise with triage and optimization of rendering pipelines
- Proficient with profile and capture tools (RenderDoc, etc.)
Additional Skills if you are interested in Networking Programming:
- Expertise with low-level networking implementations across Unreal Engine 4, Unity, and other game engines
- Proficient in optimization techniques and tools for overhead reduction (bandwidth and CPU)
- Experience with scaling and implementations in large-scale back-end solutions (including REST, http, and RPC)
- Experience with authentication, security, rich presence and other features built on top of network stack
- Strong background in C/C++
- Experience with cross platform multiplayer and online services
Nice to Have:
- Experience shipping at least one professional title using Unreal Engine 4 or Unity
- Development experience on at least one game console
- Seeing yourself and others succeed and grow is important to you
- You exhibit professional communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a wide variety of existing codebases with exemplary code comprehension
