Senior Character/Creature Artist - Liverpool

Avalanche Studios Group and its division Avalanche Studios are crafting our next cutting-edge AAA open-world fantasy game. Avalanche Studios is the division dedicated to ambitious, externally-published AAA games like Just Cause, Mad Max, and Rage 2.

The position

We are looking for a Senior Character/Creature Artist to join our core team in Liverpool. The Senior Character Artist will be responsible for creating visually stunning, stylized characters and creatures for our upcoming AAA fantasy game set in an open world.

This role requires a strong understanding of stylized character design, mythical creature anatomy, as well as a keen eye for detail. The role also includes consideration of the technical aspects of creating characters that look believable and perform well in large open-world environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Create visually stunning, stylized characters and mythical creatures for an upcoming AAA stylized fantasy game.
• Work closely with the Art Director and other leads to establish the visual style of the characters and creatures.
• Collaborate with the animation team to ensure that creatures look believable, anatomically correct, and will work with our animation pipelines.
• Work with tech animation to ensure that the character anatomy is achieving the best deformation possible when animating.
• Lead and mentor junior character artists and manage the development of the character art team.
• Ensure that all characters and creatures are optimized for performance and memory usage.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and techniques.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in character art for AAA video games.
• Strong understanding of stylized character design, mythical creature anatomy, and open-world design.
• Strong understanding of anatomy, proportion, and form.
• Strong knowledge of Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter, Marvelous Designer, and other relevant software.
• A portfolio demonstrating stylized characters and creatures art skills.
• Good attention to detail and ability to create visually stunning characters and creatures that perform well in open-world environments.
• Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively.

Desired Qualifications

• 2D drawing and knowledge of Substance Designer
• Passion for creating high-quality, stylized fantasy open-world games
