Senior Character Concept Artist

For over 30 years, Naughty Dog has been crafting best-selling, critically acclaimed games that constantly push the boundaries of narrative, gameplay, and technology. Our most recent game, The Last of Us Part II, has received over 300 Game of the Year awards and three of our games are among the top 10 highest scored games on the PlayStation 4. As a part of the Naughty Dog legacy, you’ll be continuing the development of extraordinary and enduring experiences for a broad, global range of audiences!
The Character Concept Department is looking to add another outstanding person to our team. We strive to create compelling, grounded characters who fit seamlessly within the narrative-driven worlds we build. You’ll work alongside other departments to advise, inspire, collaborate and build artistic solutions to technical obstacles. Our Character pipeline is at the forefront of AAA development - we’re looking for individuals who want to be involved with our growing process!
Responsibilities:
- Work with Art Director and Game Directors to create narrative-driven casts of characters and costumes
- Create mood boards and quick iterative sketches to inspire exciting theme directions for the Game Directors
- Work with Animation and Rigging departments to discuss production needs and technical logistics to create artistic solutions
- Collaborate with 3D Artists by providing extensive paint-overs and call-out sheets
- Work with outsourcing to provide feedback on the concepts and 3d models
- Manage Miro board and network folder to keep tabs on the latest concepts and help streamline the production
- Strengthen intra and inter-team communication to ensure the highest fidelity results
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed
Requirements & Skills:
- Strong curiosity about modern character and costume design
- Outstanding draftsmanship with a solid understanding of anatomy and art fundamentals
- Portfolio demonstrates compelling design, composition and storytelling through costume and character
- Proficiency working in Photoshop
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong project management skills
- Pro-active team member who thrives in a self-starter environment
- Must be receptive to art direction and perform well within a team setting
Bonus Skills:
- Proficiencies in 3D software: ZBrush, Maya
- Previous game or film experience
- Experience working with a wardrobe stylist, assist in fittings and facilitating model reference sessions
