Your Role
As a Senior Character Artist on World of Warcraft, you will bring to life new creatures, characters, armor, weapons, and in-game items. The ideal candidate is a skilled 3D modeler who can turn a 2D concept faithfully into an appealing, lively 3D model, loves adding hand-painted texture to character models, is a patient and empathetic communicator, and loves taking initiative on projects.
This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The potential home studio for this role is Boston, MA. However, we understand each person’s circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore other possible options, including remote work arrangements.
What you bring to the table
Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Concept Artists and other Character Artists to bring characters, armor sets, creatures, weapons, etc. from concept art all the way to game-ready 3D models that fit in the Warcraft style
- Complete technically sound art within agreed-upon production schedules and with minimal direction.
- Create concept art for characters, armor sets, creatures, weapons, and other assets when needed.
- Texture characters, armor sets, creatures, weapons, and other assets
- Work with Producers to maintain clear and consistent goals, and generate and meet time estimates
- Mentor and offer feedback to more junior Character Artists, motivate peers toward excellence
- Incorporate feedback to iterate on project visual direction
- Be a strong force in upholding a welcoming and respectful atmosphere for collaboration, communication, and creativity, with an emphasis on the values of diversity and inclusion
Minimum Requirements
Experience
- Extensive experience creating character and creatures from concept to 3D execution in an innovative, appealing style; displays a strong sense of anatomy, design, and color theory mixed with video game art and production needs
- Experience creating character assets in a pipeline that includes; Zbrush, Maya, Photoshop, Substance Painter and UE4 (or equivalent)
- Experience working in an iterative, agile environment.
- Experience with technology, terminology, and techniques of game art development, including an awareness of design and programming considerations.
Knowledge & Skills
- Portfolio examples that display an understanding of traditional art principles including composition, design, shape language, and color theory
- Portfolio examples of stylized, hand-painted 3D character modeling work
- Proficiency in sculpting and texture creation process from high resolution to game ready assets.
- Can be relied upon to quickly learn new processes and software as needed
- Excited to work together with other artists, improve visual skills, learn new techniques and applicable technology, and embrace critiques
- Strong communication skills; readily shares knowledge and information with others

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $80,800.00 - $149,400.00 Annual. This base pay range is for the U.S. and is not applicable to locations outside of the U.S. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
