Server/Ops Engineer

Ascendant Studios is in search of a Senior Build Engineer/ IT support. This role will be the foremost IT tech on site. This role will encompass day to day studio IT support needs, technical planning, coding, engine building, and internal as well as external communication. The right candidate will have a can-do attitude and love finding solutions to any problem they come across.
Due to the nature of the role this position is required to be in-person. Our new office, set in an old bank (yes, we kept the vault, aka our game room), has just opened after a 2 year renovation, steps away from shops, restaurants, and San Rafael’s vibrant downtown.
Founded by industry veterans, Ascendant Studios is a fully independent AAA game studio committed to making richly detailed, visceral, narrative-driven action games of the highest quality that players will never forget. We are currently working on our first title, an imaginative and original new IP, which we have complete ownership and creative control of.
Who you are:
- Advanced technical troubleshooting experience, recognizing and resolving issues in a number of IT environments
- Professional IT Certifications such as MCSA or MCSE (Microsoft 365 & Azure), Cisco CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, or VMware VCP would be ideal but not required
- Unreal Engine 4 (UE4) build system experience
- Familiarity with Jenkins and other build systems. Knowledge of how to construct and optimize build pipelines
- Experience with perforce, github and/or other version control tools
- Knowledgeable in PC and Console game development techniques and best practices.
- Ability to write clear and concise, well-structured code in high-level languages and shell scripting languages
- Great with lateral thinking and motivation to work independently and on a team as well as the ability to work directly with teams across multiple territories and time zones.
- Ability to create and maintain technical documentation from the beginning of a project through completion.

What you’ll do:
- Successfully research and identify solutions to software and hardware issues
- Diagnose and troubleshoot advanced technical issues, including but not limited to: firewalls, switches, servers and cloud environments such as Azure, account setup, network configuration, application support, Active Directory management, etc.
- Probe customers to uncover root causes of technical issues and then guide clients through a series of complex actions
- Participate in hands-on build engineering work
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve emergent build issues.
- Create and maintain technical documentation for build and deployment processes.
- Support adoption of build tools and technologies.
- Plan, estimate and prioritize work to reach goals as part of an Agile team
- Collaborate in peer education and self study.
- Provides technical support to users by researching and answering questions, troubleshooting problems, and maintaining workstation and LAN performance.
- Provides answers to clients by identifying problems, researching answers, and guiding clients through corrective steps.
- Improves client references by writing and maintaining documentation.
Bonus Points:
- Completion of a relevant technical certification (e.g., Google Career Certificate, Google IT Support Certificate, or other comparable certifications).
- 6 months of relevant work experience, including deploying and supporting desktops/laptops, phone systems, video conferencing, and various wireless devices.
- Passion for new technology and commitment to learning new skills.
- Shipped one or more AAA console or PC titles.
- Experience creating build automation for PC, console and/or mobile platforms
- Build farm infrastructure and/or cloud architecture knowledge
- Up to date knowledge and experience with Incredibuild and SN-DBS software
- DevOps knowledge
- Great interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of, or experience with game development systems is advantageous.
- Familiarity with current and next console SDKs, Steam, Epic Game Store.
- Familiarity with common game industry tools & middleware.
- Experience in IT and/or system administration
