Senior Behavioral Scientist and Operations Manager

Job Description
The Quantified Experience (QX) team informs leadership and other teams on perceptual consequences of technical trade-offs in augmented reality and works closely with other departments such Systems, Graphics and Optical Engineering. The core activity of the team is to conduct behavioral, scientific research related to our current and future generation products, particularly in the domain of human vision science. The “Behavioral scientist/operations manager” is key to successful operation of the team. We are looking for an energetic team player who excels in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
Responsibilities
The role comprises the following two main areas of responsibility. Each will take up approximately 50% of the work time:
(1) Facilitate smooth operation of the team. The QX team is committed to research excellence and the operations manager facilitates the team in achieving this goal while performing fast and effectively. Important activities are the management of projects within the team including the identification and removal of operational blockers and risks.
(2) Conducting research. The ideal candidate will explore visual perception in augmented reality, define engineering and design specifications, and will make recommendations to product and engineering teams. Day to day activities touch all facets of behavioral science research from developing hypotheses to the delivery of results. In this role, it is expected that the candidate will PI studies as well as contribute to studies as a collaborator.
Minimum Qualifications
- Have experience with or be motivated to learn and apply project management techniques for behavioral research projects.
- Enjoy helping others to achieve their goals in a timely and effective manner.
- Be a great communicator, conscientious, detail oriented and a team player.
- Extensive end-to-end experience with designing, conducting and analyzing studies in behavioral science, preferably in human vision science.
- In depth knowledge of statistics for behavioral sciences, preferably experience with scripting languages for statistical analyses and data cleaning such as SPSS, SAS, R or Python.
- Ability to comply with and be an advocate of the highest research standards.
- Be an author on multiple scientific journal publications on human behavior, preferably in the field of human vision science.
- Experience writing software for experiments.
Education
- PhD in human vision science or a related field in behavioral science (eg Experimental Psychology, Human Factors Research)
