Software Engineer (C++), Tools

NCSoft is looking for a Tools Engineer to join our R&D team, with emphasis on animation support features. Our R&D team provides technical solutions for multiple projects within our company, as well as for our exciting new unannounced IP. At our Aliso Viejo, CA office, you will be working with a small group of people to prototype the character animation technologies to be implemented in the Unreal Engine.

Responsibilities

• Develop runtime animation systems
• Work with Animation and Technical Art teams to develop tools and interfaces for tuning asset attributes, such as for: humans, creatures, and mechanical
• Provide implementation support
• Self-motivated to research and develop Animation Systems to push the technology forward
• Build tools to increase compatibility between Maya and MotionBuilder, and successfully implement animation assets into Unreal.

Requirements

• Video game production experience
• Knowledge of character animation technologies (Blend Trees, State Machine, real-time IK)
• Strong C++ programming skills, object-oriented design skills, and 3D math background
• Good communication skills and ability to clearly share complex technical information with artists and designers
• Ability to comprehend artists and their needs regarding tools, and to translate those into actionable technical specifications
• Excellent troubleshooting skills
• Ability and willingness to participate in company presentations and travel internationally
• Able to quickly adapt to the ever-changing daily needs that is the nature of an R&D team
• Portfolio/work examples demonstrating your programming abilities
• Always striving for excellence in software engineering
• Ability to self-manage and work independently from start to finish, as well as work within a collaborative team environment

Pluses

• Knowledge of animation-related Unreal Engine Tools (Animation Blueprints, Blend Spaces, Locomotion Systems)
• Knowledge of Python
• Experience with Maya, MotionBuilder, or similar 3D authoring packages
• Enthusiastic and knowledgeable about new technologies
• Passionate about video games and making them
