ustwo is looking for a talented senior 3D Generalist to join the team in our New York studio.

To do this, we structure our team around versatile designers who have wide skill sets, and are constantly developing, broadening and deepening their skills and process knowledge. Our designers are confident, and multi-faceted, collaborating across all disciplines involved in the product and service development process.

Requirements

  • Experience with at least 1 shipped title in an Art leadership role where you led a team and were accountable for key decisions
  • 5+ years experience in the video game industry or equivalent.
  • Expert in 2D and 3D design software such as Maya, Blender, Photoshop or equivalents.
  • Strong knowledge of Unity, or other equivalent game engines.
  • Ability to sketch your ideas, working from existing concept artwork/references, and translate them to production ready assets
    • Experience working across a wide variety of art styles, ranging from stylized to realistic.
    • Comfortable experimenting within a given art direction to explore how it is expressed and visualized.
  • Familiarity and experience with the entire art pipeline, including animation, effects, shaders, texturing, and implementation
    • Experience creating both static and animated models from reference artwork, and comfortable generating models across the spectrum from props to characters.
    • Experience in a variety of texturing methods, including hand painted, PBR, and creating texture atlases.
    • Experience creating shaders, either node-based (e.g. Shadergraph, Amplify) or custom coded
    • Good understanding of different lighting techniques such as real-time, baked, and mixed systems and when to use each.
    • Experience creating simple and advanced effects using a mixture of particle systems and custom solutions in video games
    • Experience in rigging, skinning & animating characters (bipeds, quadrupeds, robotics & other organic forms) and props (machinery, nature etc) for game engines
  • Experience set dressing and world building in engine
  • A strong understanding of the limitations that come with mobile hardware and standalone VR devices and the ability to advise on best practices
  • Familiarity with advanced optimization techniques and approaches for tight hardware budgets
  • Strong capability in rapidly iterating on concepts in a short project timespan

Desirable

  • Strong concept art / storyboarding capabilities
  • Experience with other 3D tools such as Houdini, Zbrush, Substance, etc.
  • Expert knowledge of JavaScript or C# and experience working on gameplay systems inside Unity.
  • Experience with cinematography and visual storytelling
  • Experience outside the games industry (Digital Product, Installations, Healthcare, etc)
