Senior 3D Environment Artist

We’re seeking a Senior 3D Environment Artist to join the ranks of our games team. The ideal candidate would be a self-motivated, proactive team player with proven experience creating art for games, especially in environment asset creation and level dressing. You are expected to be organized, curious, composed and always eager to improve the art for games. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work efficiently and effectively within the technical constraints of production.
- Generate high-quality art work that matches or exceeds studio standards.
- Visualize and conceive objects, or other elements in a way that contributes to the overall visual quality of the production.
- Set dressing levels to provide finesse and seamless game experience whilst communicating the game mechanics well.
- Participates in creating documentation and tutorials for on-going artistic and technical training.
- Assist Art Director and other developers to ensure steady and efficient development.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Keep the Art Director and Producers up to date regarding status of tasks at all times.
- Obtain Art Director guidance and approval as needed on tasks, project initiatives and milestones.
- Proactively schedule own time as necessary, notify Producers and Art Director in advance of upcoming roadblocks and challenges.
- Provide technical knowledge to help develop cutting-edge art and for use in our games and help to further improve our internal workflow practices.
- Team and personal development
- Consistently refine one’s own artistic abilities and learn new software packages and in-house tools.
- Contribute and help build a positive team environment.
- Working closely with designers, artists, QA, and engineers to ensure art assets are adequate and functional in the game.
- Assist other team members as well as guiding and training juniors.
Requirements
- Full proficiency in software packages and tools of the games industry listed below:
- 3ds Max/Maya
- Substance Painter
- Zbrush
- Photoshop
- PBR workflow
- Unreal Engine and/or Unity
- Surface knowledge on the following software and tools:
- Blender
- Substance Designer
- Highly proficient in one of the following disciplines or intermediate in all the following:
- Building construction
- Organic sculpting (trees, rocks, cliffs, statues, etc.)
- Tech modelling (Cars, vehicles, weapons, sci-fi props, etc.)
- Lighting and rendering in game engine
- Proficient in Game Engine technologies such as Unreal with asset integration.
- Strong understanding of level design – must be able to create visually appealing level while respecting gameplay and design.
- Strong knowledge of modular planning for large assets/environments – able to plan and create modular pieces to be used to form different variations and plan out terrain and placement for levels.
- Experience with the game art asset pipeline, i.e. highpoly and efficient game ready lowpoly modelling, texturing and baking.
- Keen eye for light, shade, color and detail in creating texture maps of different material types. Full understanding of modern PBR texture workflow.
- Can work collaboratively with colleagues and staff to create a result driven and positive team-oriented environment.
- Familiarity or experience with agile software development practices (i.e. SCRUM) is a plus
- One or more shipped game titles is a plus
- Capable of working in other art disciplines (Concept Art, VFX, UI, etc.) is a plus
- Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
