Quality Assurance Tester (Contract)

Ascendant Studios is looking to grow our development quality assurance team! Our Dev QA testers will be responsible for testing levels and gameplay features both in editor and across a variety of platforms. They will work closely with our engineering and level teams, and will be expert communicators, focusing as much on quality and player perspective as on technical stability.
This position can be remote or in-person. Our new office, set in an old bank (yes, we kept the vault, aka our game room), has just opened after a 2 year renovation, steps away from shops, restaurants, and San Rafael’s vibrant downtown.
Founded by industry veterans, Ascendant Studios is a fully independent AAA game studio committed to making richly detailed, visceral, narrative-driven action games of the highest quality that players will never forget. We are currently working on our first title, an imaginative and original new IP, which we have complete ownership and creative control of.
What you'll do:
As a QA tester you will be responsible for testing specificity game features assigned to you. In this role you will become an expert in our various testing methods, and you will leverage your knowledge of test approaches and game systems to identify gaps and work with your team to help iterate on tools and process improvements. As a member of the QA team we will look to you to identify risks early and provide critical feedback.
Who you are:
- 1+ years of experience in the Video game industry
- Passion for games and software quality
- Excellent test fundamentals, knowledge, and experience
- Desire to develop test capabilities with a focus on white box and test efficiency improvements
- Be a creative thinker who can test for ‘edge cases’ outside of expected functionality
- Responsible for working within project management (i.e. JIRA) and test related tools (i.e. TestRail)
- Support the test design effort through the creation and modification of test cases and work estimations
- Advocate of the user experience through delivery of qualitative reporting
- Test fixes for programmers and designers.
- Reproduce issues for programmers and designers.
Bonus points:
- Gray box and white box testing experience
- Familiar with: XML/HTML, JavaScript, Python, Java, C/C++/C#, SQL
- CTFL, ISTQB or equivalent
- High-level of gaming knowledge and/or skill
- Atlassian Jira /Confluence
- Seapine TestTrack Pro
- Wiki / HTML editing
- QA work experience in a development studio environment
