Job Description
The ideal candidate:
We are looking for an experienced, inspirational QA Manager, working across multiple projects with internal and external QA Technicians to ensure and maintain a stringent level of quality across all of our games beginning early in the development cycle, continuing into long running live operations. You possess a love of games and genuinely care about the quality of the titles you work on ensuring no bug is left unresolved. You are comfortable operating at a senior level; coaching, advising and helping your team to grow.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Working with Production and other departments to ensure all projects are shipped on time with maximum quality and minimal defects.
- Identifying all QA requirements and attending Heads of Department meetings to ensure your department is accurately represented, all concerns are voiced and demands negotiated to a successful outcome.
- Providing clear direction for multiple test teams, both internal and external to deliver a clear and consistent vision for functionality, internal and platform holder standards, compatibility and QA localisation.
- Continually seek opportunities for improvement in current processes
- Develop a roadmap for building required test expertise where necessary. Working with Production, HR and Project Leads to ensure QA recruitment needs are clear and fulfilled at all times
- Building and fostering good working relationships with other internal studios and outsourcing partners to ensure necessary support functions are in place e.g. compatibility testing, standards compliance.
- Usage of bug tracking tools to analyse and understand key metrics to inform stakeholders and facilitate decision making at all levels.
- Coach and manage your direct reports, providing clear objectives to ensure they reach their full potential as well as agreeing and actioning areas where support is needed.
- Lead discussion in defining best practices for testing, testing processes and testing tools to ensure our teams are working as efficiently and effectively as possible
- Knowledge sharing between Functionality, Technical, Network and Live Ops teams alongside development of relevant training programs.
- Managing all communications with internal, external, worldwide studios (e.g. Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Bucharest) and headquarters
- Monitoring and administering of all contractor financials and reporting.
- Hosting and attending relevant QA conferences, including Ubisoft’s biennial worldwide QC summit; championing FGOL standards and best practices to educate and inspire other studios.
REQUIRMENTS:
The candidate must have:
- At least 6 years’ experience in test roles in total.
- With a minimum of 3 years’ experience and 2 shipped titles from start to finish in a leadership role working alongside development teams
- Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to inspire others
- Familiarity managing multiple on site and external test teams
- Proven experience hiring, training and mentoring other senior team members to build a strong team around them
- A proven background in Mobile Quality Assurance.
- An excellent understanding of Apple and Google Play Store standards and submission processes
- Able to show a strong understanding of networking concepts and relevant testing requirements and tools
- Experience using test automation systems (either off the shelf or custom) and involvement in helping define usage and drive adoption
- Experience with Live Operations and games as a service from a Quality Assurance perspective.
PLUS
Should also possess some of the following:
- Shipped single and multiplayer games
- Understanding of SCRUM/Agile and history structuring test teams to support these methodologies
- Use of BI/Analytics in game development and relevance to testing and test coverage
- Experience with In App Purchasing processes, both Google Play store and Apple. Knowledge of Chinese payment platforms also a benefit.
- Understanding of technical and performance requirements of all platforms with experience creating strategies to assess and adapt to these accordingly
- Play testing and Usability testing experience including methods for capturing actionable data
- Administration experience of JIRA bug tracking databases including setup of workflows relevant for their teams
- A good working knowledge of MS & Google office applications and tools
- Use of Test Case Management software
- Experience supporting online services with related release cycles, interactions with CS/GM teams, etc.
- Familiarity with certification and submissions requirements for console platforms; Nintendo, Sony & Microsoft.
- Experience working closely with build and release teams including use of version control systems.
- A good understanding of all phases of development and test, from prototyping to soft launches to worldwide launches
- Experience in Quality Assurance in shipping titles on consoles and/or PC
