Senior QA Tester, Defence
Improbable has created SpatialOS: a networking solution combining low latency, tools for faster iteration, and a ready-to-go architecture capable of supporting innovative games.
Now the Improbable Defence division, building on the backbone of SpatialOS, has combined world class scientific modelling, market leading AI, mission specific user interfaces and a uniquely flexible and secure deployment model to create a powerful simulation platform tailored to the needs of the military.
Our mission? To enable the most realistic and effective military simulations ever experienced, making defence users more effective on operations and decreasing the cost of military preparedness.
Your Mission
The test practice within the Improbable Defence division aims to provide repeatable methods of testing and easy-to-use and useful tools and frameworks for our Defence engineering division and the partners and vendors that we collaborate with.
This enables them to test, release and operate their high-quality products quickly, reliably, repeatedly, safely and with confidence. Shipping the highest quality software to our customers and partners will be central to the long-term success of our simulation platforms.
To help with this, we are keen to hire a QA tester to provide hands on exploratory testing experience for our delivery teams. The person who fills this role will also routinely provide knowledge sharing and mentoring to our growing test practice and their project team members. We envisage that you will help shape and share our processes around exploratory testing as a whole.
Areas for Impact
- You will be a critical part of a cross functional team supporting a range of Quality Assurance (QA) tasks to support your project
- You will help create and support quality measurement metrics to help the division get a better insight into it’s software throughout the development life cycle
- You will advocate and educate teams on the contextual use of exploratory testing as a complimentary practice to automation
- You will review and improve the release processes of the various teams, identify and resolve any bottlenecks that prevent faster and more frequent releases
- You will join a team at it’s foundation, growing a best-in-class testing culture and directly contributing to the success of our distributed simulation platforms
- You will educate development teams on quality development via workshops, communities of practice and individual mentoring
- You will be the domain expert and the fearless voice of quality and rigour through testing, delivery and monitoring
- You will be able to join in and even lead team discussions on picking the best solution for the challenge / opportunity at hand
- You will have the desire not to just understand the projects and their solutions but to want to expand your own skills to master them too
- Leading by example and being a great communicator who sees the benefits of being open, honest and direct.
We'd like to hear from you if you identify with the following:
- You regard testing as a craft and practice it accordingly and can demonstrate a deep love for your chosen profession
- Have experience of exploratory testing practices that you would be happy to apply as part of a role in a delivery team
- Can continuously show throughout your career an appetite to learn new technologies and approaches
- Have the desire to share your skills and knowledge with others
- Demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills and adaptability to new situations
- Have experience of testing at multiple layers of the modern tech stack - UI, API, database and infrastructure.
It would be a bonus if you have experience testing software products for, or within, the Defence sector with bonus points for platform or simulation technologies.
