Prototyper/Lab Technician, Perception Data - Contractor

Job Description

The Prototyper/Lab Technician will be a hands-on, onsite individual who can quickly internalize complicated topics and implement solutions to challenging problems. This candidate should thrive on the excitement of solving hard problems and feel comfortable working alongside electrical, software, and mechanical engineers. This technician should be a self-starter with a knack for delivering efficient solutions that quickly solve the problem at hand. All candidates must be able to bring their CAD models to life in our awesome lab. The main focus of this role will be to design, prototype, and deliver novel solutions to support all Magic Leap teams.

Responsibilities:

• Work with team members to conceptualize, define, design, build, and test new parts and assemblies
• Support remote team members with onsite fabrication
• Maintain and service machine shop equipment including 3D printers, laser cutter, waterjet, etc.
• Maintain / organize / upgrade labs, including robot and motion capture equipment
• Perform lab asset management duties (storage, transportation, calibration, service, and audit) and maintain the equipment database
• Search out materials and components
• Quickly fabricate designs and iterate in our lab using hand tools, laser cutter, and 3D printers
• Be a go to person for solving prototyping needs for Sunnyvale site

Qualifications:

• 2+ years of CAD experience including designing for 3D printing (Solidworks preferred)
• 2+ years of rapid manufacturing experience (3D printers, laser cutters, etc.)
• Experience with electromechanical systems is a must
• 2+ years of fabrication experience
• 2+ years assembly experience
• Desire to learn
• Self-starter
• Software experience ( i.e. Python, Arduino C etc .) Is a plus
• Machining experience (waterjet, CNC mill, lathe, etc.) is a plus
